Rhia and Jodie from our Polegate home visited Maris View Care Home in Eastbourne this week.

A tour, and time with the people who do the caring every single day. In the months ahead we'll be back, sitting down with staff, residents and families who want to talk things through early, at their own pace.

Because when a family needs us, it helps if someone in the room already knows our faces. Thank you for inviting us. See you soon.

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of welcoming Rhia and Jo from Haine & Son Funeral Directors in Polegate to our home.

Established in 1838, Haine & Son, part of the family funeral directors CPJ Field, has been providing compassionate, personalised funeral services to the local community for generations.

It was a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the support they offer and to give them a tour of our home. We look forward to working together to arrange informal information sessions for our staff and families, offering guidance and support during what can be a difficult time.

Thank you, Rhia and Jo, for taking the time to visit us—we’re looking forward to collaborating in the future.

🌊 The summer holidays have arrived, and so has our new window at Polegate!

With the children breaking up from school and days at the beach ahead, the team thought it was the perfect time to bring a little bit of the seaside to the High Street.

If you're passing 65 High Street over the holidays, do stop and have a look. You're always welcome to pop in and say hello, the kettle's never far away.

Scarecrow Competition Awards Presentation – You're Invited!

Join us this Sunday, 26 July at 2.00 pm on Abbey Green as we celebrate this year's Scarecrow Competition.

With a record-breaking 38 entries, this year's theme, Scarecrows Go Global, has filled Battle with creativity, colour and plenty of smiles.

Come along to discover who has won this year's awards, applaud all our fantastic entrants, and help us celebrate another wonderful community event.

Special delivery for the Friends of Eastbourne Hospital. 🧶

Last week, Jodie and Karen from Haine & Son in Hailsham delivered a big bag of hand-knitted blankets to the Friends of Eastbourne Hospital, who'll share them across the hospital.

Every one was made by our Knit & Craft group, part of Never Alone, square by square, over cups of tea.

Fancy joining us? Bring your knitting, your crafting, or just yourself. Second Monday of each month, 10am to 12pm, at Haine & Son, 46 South Road, Hailsham. Free, kettle always on, everyone welcome.

Battle Scarecrows Go Global, and ours has come all the way from Peru. 🇵🇪

The Battle Festival Scarecrow Competition runs from 11th to 26th July, with a trail from the Abbey Green, up the High Street to Market Square.

This year's theme is "Go Global", so we chose Peru, and Diana, our funeral arranger here in Battle, has made a Paddington scarecrow, complete with suitcase and marmalade sandwiches. Do come and say hello to him.

And since all those scarecrows have done their job and scared the birds away, Diana has created a bird-themed treasure hunt for the children. There are 16 birds hidden around Market Square. Every returned entry gets a participation reward, and one lucky entrant will be drawn to win a larger prize.

Entry forms are available from Haine & Son, Needle meets Hook, Baby Latte and Abbey Pet Foods, with entries back by 26th July.

Congratulations to the six talented pupils of Polegate Primary School whose "Keep Polegate Clean" posters are brightening up our window for The Great Big Green Week! 🌳

The judges, including our own Haine & Son team, had a tough job picking winners from 96 brilliant entries.
