A life-saving reunion at Crawley Town FC ! ⚽️❤️
When Birmingham City FC fan Steve suffered a sudden cardiac arrest in the stadium toilet during an away match, the Revive Medical team sprang into action. Thanks to rapid intervention and seamless teamwork, Steve’s heart was restarted on scene before he was rushed to hospital with our colleagues from South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust.
Recently, we had the incredible privilege of welcoming Steve back to the stadium for an emotional pitchside reunion. Standing together on the pitch, it was hard to overstate just how surreal, humbling, and moving it was to see him healthy, smiling, and looking back on a day that could have ended so differently.
Reflecting on the moment, Kayne and Cerys shared: 'When we first arrived on scene, he was in cardiac arrest—it was a very serious situation. It was so good seeing him again after sending him off in an ambulance after getting a pulse back and not knowing what the outcome could have been. Seeing him now at the reunion was quite surreal, but it's genuinely lovely to see him well, doing so much better, and cherishing every day that comes. Knowing we were able to get his heart beating again means his whole family, including his grandchildren, get to spend more time together.'
Sharing his gratitude, Steve said: 'I have little memory of what happened that day, but I am incredibly grateful to everyone involved in saving my life. Without their quick actions I wouldn't be here. It means so much to be able to meet the people who gave me extra time with my family and friends.'
Stories like this are a powerful reminder of why early intervention, the chain of survival, and a calm, skilled clinical response matter so much in event medicine. We are endlessly proud of our team for their exceptional work that day, and even more grateful that Steve gets to keep making memories with his loved ones, watching his team play, and enjoying every single day.
