Caroline Barton Nutrition Diet and lifestyle plans to manage your health with simple steps and supportive advice Who do I work with? How does it work? What do you get? What now?

As a registered nutritional therapist and naturopath, my approach nurtures the body and mind to rebalance, using food as medicine, incorporating lifestyle advice to return you to optimal wellbeing. Complementing traditional medicine, naturopathic nutrition focusses on the root cause of symptoms to enable meaningful, long-term improvement. Advice is simple and supportive, driven by what is manageab

le and achievable for you, to make a positive difference to your health. I understand it can be stressful and tiring to find inspiration in the kitchen to feed yourself or your family with nutritious food they will enjoy. From experience with my own family and running a farmers’ market food stall, I offer practical help with recipes and workshops to make daily meal preparation quick and easy, tasty and wholesome. I work with men and women of all ages, including young adults who want to make confident choices about food and health issues. Typically they are people who seek a health improvement but are unsure what will work for them or where to start. If you put up with symptoms impacting your life such as low vitality, problem skin, unhappy tummy, cravings, low mood/stress and anxiety, weight control, or ongoing bone/hormone/metabolic issues, then targeted diet and lifestyle support can make a real difference. We discuss your health goals and agree a personalized plan of action, including step-by-step changes followed by frequent check-ins together to review progress, develop the plan, make any tweaks and help you stay on track. The initial consultation can be in person at my home, or via Zoom, catch-ups normally on Zoom. It’s a good idea to allow 3 months or more for best results, though you may see earlier improvements. Options:
3 x month package: price £250
initial consultation of 90 minutes, where I take a full health, diet and lifestyle history.
6x fortnightly catch-ups (15-45 minutes), to build the plan and overcome any problems. Discount on any recommended supplements.
1 x month package: price £180
initial consultation as above, plus 3 weekly catch-ups. I may suggest functional tests or supplements, but my first approach is to achieve change through diet. (Functional tests or supplements may be useful, but my….) To book a free 20 minute discovery call or an appointment, please e-mail or message, and I’ll get back to you promptly. I am a member of ANP (Association of Naturopathic Practitioners) which promotes quality healthcare, education and research, ensuring practitioners are suitably qualified and adhere to standards to maintain and protect the public.

I forgot to mention the garlic!
Add 3 fat cloves sliced with sautéed chicken 😉
Quantities are forgiving and flexible, so throw it all in and see what happens.
For 4 people I used:
1 very large courgette, 6 chicken thigh fillets cut into chunks, generous 1cup pearl barley (and double quantity of stock so 2 cups/1 1/2 stock cubes), 3 cloves garlic, large bunch of tarragon, 1/2 lemon juice, large handful grated Parmesan or pecorino
*saute courgette, chicken and garlic in olive oil till browned, set aside.
*in same pan, add barley, stock, simmer with lid on for 20 minutes or till liquid absorbed and barley soft but still chewy.
*Return chicken and courgette to pan to finish cooking through, along with lemon juice, herbs seasoning and finally stir through cheese.
*serve with lots of greens

Courgettes are flavour of the month - easy to add raw grated or sliced any salad or lightly steamed or sautéed to any dinner.
Loves a bit of chilli or garlic, black pepper and lemon 😉

Blackberries, Bramleys and a squeeze of honey - my favourite apple skins or not 😉
Adjust ratios to taste - use with yoghurt, granola, or stirred into porridge or overnight oats - or ice cream.

My first attempt at gazpacho - and I’m a convert! Apparently the Spanish like to keep a jug handy in the fridge to glug after a night out 🤣
This is an incredibly healthy soup - packed with vitamins, antioxidants and anti inflammatories.
I’m off to make another batch!

-large bowl of cherry/ripe vine tomatoes (500g)
-1/2 large or 1 small cucumber
-1ted pepper
-4 garlic cloves
-large bunch of basil (plus a handful of coriander if you have it)
-1 red onion and 1 red chilli
-a slosh (2 tbs) red wine vinegar
-1tsp salt
-150ml approx EV olive oil
*roughly chop all veg and blend with rest of ingredients except oil
*gradually add oil while blending
*strain through a sieve into a jug or bowl,
pressing down remove liquid
*chill fully before serving

It doesn’t get any easier than this!
Speedy, delicious - plus plenty of protein and polyphenols.
Mix creamy Greek yoghurt with a teaspoon of lemon curd. Add blackberries, blueberries or raspberries. Et voila!

Variation in my breakfast bowl today with home made granola, raspberries snd flaxseed.
5% or 10% fat yoghurt improves satiety and blood glucose stability, so will likely make a more satisfying breakfast than a non fat version, plus helping you absorb fat soluble vitamins.
0% yoghurt is still good however, just different, but nonetheless a good source of protein, calcium and probiotics.
Daily changes of nuts, seeds and fruit, nut butter, tahini, muesli or overnight oats mean you can have the variety your gut enjoys, plus the easy tasty breakfast you need.

Use PARSLEY instead of lovage!
Oh, and I forgot to include the capers!
For 2 people:
250g cooked potatoes in skins, 1/2 sliced red onion, spoonful chopped cornichons, capers, black pepper, 3chopped anchovy fillets, 1chopped garlic clove, handful of lovage (parsley), tarragon and dill (chives), mayo.

Never one to pass up the chance for a good walk (my children can testify to many a ‘fun’ family walk gone wrong!), I’m on Ilkley moor, taking the scenic route again 😉.
A lively town and great base for many wonderful walks.

I really look forward to breakfast… putting together a bowl with creamy yoghurt and a bunch of other bits snd pieces.
Always delicious snd always a little bit different. (It’s good to aim for a bit of variety- even if you keep to a similar theme).
I also added some ground flax and chia seed, which I forgot to mention.

Still productive but not without issues…
Caterpillar invasion, hot tired veg - nonetheless we’ve snacked on lots of mini cucumbers, munched through heaps of broccoli leaves, loads of cos lettuce, and a plentiful supply of herbs. Maybe I’m turning into a caterpillar…
Next up I’ll be eating the summer squash and tomatoes 🤗
