Our medical director, Miss Sherina Balaratnam Miss (Dr) Sherina Balaratnam has been quoted in The Times on the science of light therapy for hair loss, and on the clinic’s latest device, the Celluma Mystique.
 
“Most LED masks do one thing. This one treats the face and the scalp in the same session, which is what interested me in it. The article is also careful about what light can and cannot do, which is rarer than you would think, and that is why I was glad to be in it.”
 
Her MSc research at UCL was on photodynamic therapy and photobiomodulation, so the questions she asks of any device tend to be the technical ones.
 
The Mystique is designed to treat the face and the scalp in a single session, across three wavelengths:
 
→ 465nm blue, which targets acne causing bacteria
→ 640nm red, which works to support collagen, the appearance of fine lines, and the scalp
→ 880nm near infrared, for circulation and inflammation
 
Five settings cover wrinkles, acne, hair, and the combined face and scalp protocols. The device is FDA cleared and carries a medical CE mark.
 
Skin and hair are rarely one problem. A device can support a plan. It cannot be the plan.
 
The Mystique is used in clinic and is available to purchase for home use, with guidance on protocol from the clinical team.

Our Medical Director shares her Profhilo Body experience at S-Thetics Clinic, treated by Cheryl Marshall-Williams.
 
For years, Miss Balaratnam has recommended Profhilo to suitable patients. This is the first time she has been the one lying on the treatment bed.
 
Profhilo Body was developed specifically for areas the original facial formulation was never intended to treat, including the abdomen, upper arms, décolletage and above the knees, where skin can gradually become thinner and crepier with age.
