AUTUMN 🍂

As the seasons turn, Yoga & Ayurveda invite us to turn inward.

Autumn is the season of Vata — light, mobile, changeable energy. As the leaves begin to fall and the days grow shorter, our bodies and minds can benefit from the opposite qualities: warmth, grounding, rhythm and stillness.

Expect slow grounding asanas and flows, steady breathwork & relaxation by candlelight.

Summer Read No.2

Well.. I am not ok! I’ve been trawling Booktok & Reddit forums for some connection with others who’ve read it!
What an odd(!!), slowly creepy/dreadful, sad, claustrophobic, beautiful book.
I enjoyed the double timelines & loved the spooky underwater plot (another new change from spooks in haunted houses).
I tend to stay away from reads with a sad edge though. So this combined with the mad oddness has left me feeling out of sorts.
Would have enjoyed more fleshing out of the underwater experience but that’s purely curiosity, loved it all the same!
On to ‘A Forest, Darkly’ as recommended by Rhiannon Holland next.

Little Harvest 🧺

The carrots, spring onions & red onions were ready!
The red onions & spring onions did well considering they were completely overshadowed by the potato jungle!
But admittedly, our carrots in the opposite bed weren’t as plentiful this year as last year… I sowed mostly organic yellow carrot seeds & they have not been as plentiful as last year. I wonder why? Weather? The seed variety? Maybe I sowed them too thinly compared to last year? Or fed them less?
I have more orange carrot seeds to sow even though it’s very late, but I can’t find them anywhere… I’m sure they’ll turn up in November 🙈

Either way, everything was delicious in salad & sunday dinner, so on we go! The swede, cabbage, cauliflower & christmas potatoes are going in next. Maybe carrots if I ever find them!

Strawberry Cordial 🍓

I wanted a way to use up some shop bought strawberries that were almost past their best, so had a go at strawberry cordial for some homemade summer flavour.

I used all the leftover strawberries, one cup of water, one cup of sugar, and the juice of half a lemon. I simmered the strawberries & water first, then pressed them through a sieve. Next, I combined them with the sugar & lemon juice on a medium heat.

Just like the lavender cordial, I mixed it with chilled lemonade and a few glasses of Prosecco! 🥂

It was a great way to use up the sad strawberries from the fridge & I will definitely be doing it in future!

Beetroot Powder 🫜

Me and Eliette have been experimenting with making our own balms and such using oils, butters & rose petals from the garden (as she is growing up & slowly becoming more interested in cosmetics!).
However, most of my roses are peachy coloured and we aren’t seeing colour translate into the balms. The internet says beetroot powder is the answer for colouring homemade cosmetics and we recently had two organic beetroot in our Moor Park Garden veg delivery.
We grated & then cooked the beetroot at around 50 degrees for 5 (ish) hours then blended into powder once dry.
Fingers crossed for success in the next round of potion making 🪄

Cucumber!
Our first year growing cucumber. With one little plant and currently no greenhouse (big thanks to Welsh mountain wind for that!) just a little cold frame, we’ve done pretty well thanks to the lovely summer.
I started the plant from seed gifted to me at Christmas on the window sill propagator in the Spring and then moved it outside to the cold frame after hardening off. Since it got too tall for the cold frame it’s been out in the wild of the garden and I’m so pleased it’s done well. I think I was expecting tiny snack cucumbers so I’m chuffed with the size & they taste amazing if I say so myself 💁‍♀️ although El Peet is having none of it!

My first summer read, but my second time reading because I absolutely loved this book! The cottage-core x horror genre is a new 10/10 for me - a cool departure from the haunted houses I usually enjoy. I love spooky in its regular home, full of pathetic fallacy; but enjoyed this new twist on it (and previously Hammer x Julie Myersons’s ‘The Quickening’ where the horror unfolds on a beautiful sunny holiday!)
Would recommend for any spooky/horror lovers.. the dread builds beautifully!

Wanting to read next:
The Bog Witch / Our Wives Under The Sea / Trad Wife so reviews of those and any others gratefully received!
