Sheltering in the barn as yesterday’s thunderstorm rolled through, I watched the Suffolk skies put on quite a show. Dark storm clouds slowly gave way to soft pinks and fiery reds. Nature’s reminder of her power and beauty 🌩️✨🌅

Flower and Haze have the right idea. 💦🐴

On hot days, nature reminds us that rest is productive, slowing down is sensible, and caring for ourselves matters.

Whether it’s standing in a cooling mist, finding some shade, or taking a quiet pause, sometimes the best thing we can do is listen to what our bodies need.

Take care of yourselves out there. It’s a warm one. ☀️

This little partnership didn’t happen overnight. It’s been built through patience, consistency, listening, and learning how to communicate with one another in a way that feels safe for them both.

Watching this young person and little Pip move together through the obstacle course so calmly and in sync felt very special. Less about “getting it right” and more about connection, attunement, and relationship.

Sometimes the biggest moments look very quiet from the outside. ✨

Early morning snoozing in the barn. What a wonderfully calm sight. I had to pause for a moment with them this morning — grounding myself for the day ahead and soaking up the quiet, sleepy energy of the herd. Sharing peaceful moments before the day begins. ✨

This morning’s hay run finished with me reflecting on how important this part of the day is here at Silver Horse.

On the surface it’s practical — feeding hay, checking water, noticing who is moving comfortably, who might need a closer look, who feels settled, connected or perhaps a little out of sorts. It’s one of the moments in the day where I get to quietly connect with each member of the herd and make sure everyone is okay, physically and emotionally.

But it’s also much more than that.

There’s something deeply important to me about the acts of service involved in caring for the horses. The feeding, the carrying hay, the daily tending. Relationship is not one-sided. The horses give so much within this work — their presence, sensitivity, honesty, co-regulation and companionship. Caring for them is part of the reciprocal relationship we have with each other.

The responsibility of caring for the herd itself and the therapeutic work are bound together. The practical care is part of the work. Part of the connection.

It’s never just “feeding horses.”

Sometimes it’s deeply therapeutic to lean into our creative side. Sitting in the warmth of the sun, surrounded by snoozing ponies, gently messing around with pastels can help busy brains slow down and settle.

Creativity invites focus outside of ourselves for a while — noticing colour, texture, movement and feeling rather than overthinking or analysing. No pressure to be “good” at it. Just space to play, explore and be present in the moment.

Alongside the quiet presence of the herd, these small creative moments can support regulation, grounding and a softer connection back to ourselves. ✨

A little AI-generated glimpse of the chorus of birds that accompanied my morning coffee this morning.

Silver Horse is full of life 🌿
Birdsong trilling, chirping, warbling, tweeting, chattering, calling, singing, piping, whistling, cooing, cawing, crooning…...the loudest of them all being the tiny little Wren ❤️

Full Moon, Beltane, May beginnings- a sense of everything coming alive at once.
A shift in the air. More movement, more sound, more energy. 💚🐴💚

Just a quiet little moment — nothing dramatic — Abbie and Flower sharing some hay.

For anyone who knows them, it’s a bit of a curious one. They’re both older mares who have tended to keep their distance over the years. But recently, I’ve been noticing something shift. Flower, in particular, has been choosing to spend more time alongside Abbie.

There’s something really subtle and meaningful in that.

Relationships aren’t fixed — not in herds, and not in us. They move, soften, change shape. They take on new meanings depending on what’s needed, what’s possible, and what feels safe.

Even long-established dynamics can shift in quiet ways.

It feels like a gentle reminder that connection is always alive and evolving. And that even when things feel stuck — especially in those darker places — change is still happening, often just beneath the surface.

Who is this for… and how can it help?

I’m often asked this.

I work with young people (10+) through to adults. Many of the people who come here are neurodivergent young people experiencing anxiety, overwhelm, or finding school environments hard to access or sustain.

For some, traditional talking therapy can feel too intense or like too much pressure — especially when things already feel overwhelming.

At Silver Horse, we take a different approach.

There’s no expectation to talk.

We begin with being — alongside the herd, on the land, at a pace that feels manageable.

The outdoor space and the presence of the horses offer gentle sensory input that can help the nervous system begin to settle. From there, people often start to reconnect with their bodies — noticing what’s happening inside, rather than trying to think their way through.

Over time, this can support:
• Feeling calmer and more regulated
• Building awareness of thoughts, feelings and body sensations
• Developing ways to manage overwhelm
• Understanding and trusting personal boundaries
• Experiencing connection in a way that feels safer and less pressured

For many neurodivergent young people, connecting with others can feel complicated. The horses offer something different — a steady, non-verbal and non-judgemental presence.

This work gently nurtures connection —slowly and safely.

The question I get asked the most by any new enquiries is always:
“What do you actually do with the horses?”

My honest answer is… not a lot.

At least, not in the way you might expect.

At Silver Horse, the horses aren’t tools or “equipment” to get someone to a goal. They are sentient beings, each with their own likes, dislikes and choices. That means we move at their pace and yours, always paying attention to consent — from both of you.

From the outside, a session can look very simple. We might spend time just being alongside the herd, noticing who comes close, who hangs back, and how they relate to one another. You might offer a hand to sniff, walk alongside a horse, or brush a muddy coat — but only if they are clearly saying “yes.”

Often, it’s in this quiet, unpressured time together that something begins to shift. Being with the horses can help your nervous system settle, and from there, connection can start to grow — with them and with yourself.

If a horse shows they want space, we treat that as a clear “no.” Learning to recognise and respect those signals is a big part of the work, helping you tune into boundaries and trust your own sense of what feels okay.

There’s no pressure to perform or be “good with horses.” You’re not here to control them, but to be in relationship with them.

From there, each session unfolds naturally — shaped by you and the horses, in the moment. 💚🐴💚
