The strongest clinical teams never stop learning from one another.

At AMI Clinic in Bedford, regular team training gives our practitioners the opportunity to share experience, practise chiropractic techniques, discuss clinical decision-making and provide honest, constructive feedback.

Every practitioner brings different knowledge, experience and perspectives to the room. By sharing these openly, we continue developing individually while raising standards across the whole clinic.

It’s about refining the details, understanding different approaches and continuing to improve how we assess, communicate and deliver individualised chiropractic care.

Because when knowledge is shared, the whole team becomes stronger—and every patient benefits from a higher standard of care.

WHERE SHOULD YOU FEEL A DONKEY KICK?

The donkey kick is commonly used as a glute activation and hip-extension exercise—but lifting your leg higher does not necessarily make it better.

You should mainly feel the gluteal muscles working on the side of the moving leg. You may also notice your abdominal muscles, shoulders and supporting hip working to keep your trunk and pelvis controlled.

A helpful movement pattern looks like this:

• Begin on your hands and knees
• Gently brace through your trunk
• Keep your pelvis level and relatively still
• Maintain a comfortable bend in the knee
• Drive the thigh backwards from the hip
• Stop before your lower back begins to arch or your pelvis rotates
• Lower the leg slowly and with control

If you mainly feel the donkey kick in your lower back, the movement may be coming from lumbar extension rather than the hip. If your hamstring repeatedly cramps, try reducing the range, easing the effort and focusing on moving the thigh from the glute.

Your leg does not need to travel beyond a certain height. Your available hip movement, strength and control will vary—and forcing a larger range can simply create compensation elsewhere.

Think:

“Move from the hip. Keep the pelvis quiet. Control the return.”

There is not one universally perfect movement for everybody. However, if the exercise consistently causes pain, feels significantly restricted or produces a clear difference between sides, an individual assessment may help identify what is limiting the movement.

Where do you feel your donkey kicks: glute, hamstring or lower back?

Save this post for your next glute workout.

Why does back pain feel manageable one day and much worse the next—even when nothing appears to have changed?

A back pain flare-up does not necessarily mean that your spine has sustained more damage. Pain levels and physical function can vary in response to several factors, including:

• Increased workload or lifting
• Poor sleep and reduced recovery
• Stress and muscle tension
• Too much or too little movement
• New or unfamiliar activity
• Expectations and previous pain experiences
• Your wider physical, emotional and social context

This does not mean back pain is “all in your head.” Pain is real. It means the human pain system is more complex than one muscle, joint, disc or finding on a scan.

Stress or poor sleep will not explain everyone’s symptoms, and new, significantly changing or concerning back pain should receive an appropriate clinical assessment.

The next time your back pain feels worse, don’t only ask, “Where does it hurt?”

Also ask: “What was different around it?”

Save this post and look for patterns the next time you experience a difficult day.

What does a mid-back adjustment feel like? 👀

For some patients, the anticipation is the biggest part — especially when they’re holding on this tightly! 😂

This mid-back adjustment at our Bedford chiropractic clinic was quick, controlled and carefully adapted to the patient.

A mid-back, or thoracic spine, adjustment may be used as part of chiropractic care when someone is experiencing stiffness or reduced movement through that area.

Speed doesn’t mean excessive force. The patient remains informed and prepared, while the chiropractor uses a precise movement suited to their individual needs and comfort.

Do you hold on tightly before an adjustment, or stay relaxed? 😅

POV: you’re halfway up the roller coaster at and suddenly remember you’ve already booked your chiropractic appointment. 😂🎢

After a full day at a theme park, it’s not unusual to notice a little neck stiffness, back stiffness or muscular tension.

Hours of walking, standing, queuing, sitting on rides and moving your body in ways it isn’t used to can all contribute to how you feel afterwards.

That doesn’t automatically mean your spine is “out of place” or that anything is damaged.

At AMI Clinic in Bedford, our approach to chiropractic care is about helping you understand how your body is moving, supporting mobility and addressing areas that feel stiff, restricted or uncomfortable.

Chiropractic care isn’t about being afraid of movement.

It’s about helping you stay active, move with confidence and get the right support when your neck, back or joints aren’t feeling quite right.

So after a full day of roller coasters with the kids at Thorpe Park…

I was definitely pleased to see that treatment table 😂

Looking for a chiropractor in Bedford for neck pain, back pain, stiffness or mobility concerns? Our team at AMI Clinic can assess what’s going on and recommend an approach based on you.

Why does one side of the pelvis appear higher when lying face down?

In this image, one side of the patient’s pelvis appears more elevated, creating a visible rotation through the pelvis and lower back. But what we can see isn’t automatically where the problem started.

This type of compensation may be influenced by:

• Differences in hip mobility
• Muscle tension or protective guarding
• Reduced movement through the lower back
• Previous injury
• The way the body moves during everyday activities

At AMI Clinic in Bedford, we don’t assess posture or alignment from appearance alone. We compare movement on both sides, examine the hips, pelvis and lumbar spine, and look at how the body responds during functional movement.

Treatment is guided by what the assessment reveals, followed by reassessment to measure whether movement has changed.

🔍 Assess the whole pattern
🙌 Treat what the assessment identifies
🔄 Reassess the response

Don’t just treat where the body looks uneven. Find out why it may be compensating.

ASSESS → TREAT → REASSESS
Train movement, not just muscles.

🐾 Axel doesn’t have a mobility routine.

When he visited AMI Clinic in Bedford, he wandered around, had a stretch, investigated every interesting smell—and then lay down as if he owned the place.

A little later, he got up and did it all again.

Dogs don’t wait until Monday to start moving more. When their body tells them to change position, stretch or walk, they usually listen.

Humans are remarkably good at ignoring those same signals.

We notice stiffness.

We shift around in our chair.

We think, “I really need to move.”

Then we carry on sitting.

Your body doesn’t always need a complicated exercise programme. Sometimes it simply needs a short walk, a stretch, a movement break or a different position.

Your best position may simply be your next position.

If back pain, neck pain or stiffness keeps returning despite moving and stretching, an assessment may help you understand what could be contributing to it.

At AMI Clinic, our Bedford chiropractors assess how your body is moving, look for possible areas of compensation and create an individual treatment and rehabilitation plan based on what we find.
