π§ Looking after your brain is just as important as looking after your body.
Most of us think about eating well and exercising to manage our weight or improve our fitness, but these everyday habits may also play a role in supporting long-term brain health.
Over 980,000 people are thought to be living with dementia in the UK, with that number predicted to rise to more than 1.4 million by 2040. While there's no guaranteed way to prevent dementia, growing research suggests that the healthy choices we make today may help reduce our risk in the future.
A recent study by researchers at Rutgers University, New Jersey, found that losing weight by eating only within certain hours of the day may further reduce the rate of age-related cognitive decline. Participants who restricted their eating window not only lost weight but also showed improvements in memory and thinking skills.
Although this is early research and more studies are needed, it adds to the growing evidence that when we eat could be just as important as what we eat for our long-term health.
