Forever learning, forever growing ✨

My journey as a massage therapist has always been about understanding the body, helping people feel their best, and continuing to expand my knowledge. Today, I’m so grateful to be able to extend that journey by shadowing a mentor and learning more about chiropractic care for children. šŸ¤

There’s something so rewarding about adding new skills to the foundation I’ve already built. Always learning, always evolving, always growing. šŸ«¶šŸ¼

MUMS… DO YOU STILL MASSAGE YOUR KIDS?

Not because something hurts. Not because they have an injury. Simply because touch matters.

We live in a world where children spend hours touching screens , but perhaps less time experiencing calm, safe, human touch.

A simple back rub before bed, Massaging their feet. Gentle shoulders after a long school day.

Massage doesn’t always have to be a ā€œtreatmentā€. Sometimes it is simply a moment to slow down, connect and relax together.

As a massage therapist, and now approaching the end of my chiropractic studies, I’m becoming increasingly interested in how we can bring appropriate therapeutic touch into children’s wellbeing too.

Maybe we need to teach this generation something very simple again: Put the screen down. Feel your body. Breathe. Connect. Ground.

So tell me…

When was the last time you massaged your child?

THE SMALLEST PATIENTS TAUGHT ME SOMETHING BIG.

As I come towards the end of my chiropractic studies, one of the areas I’ve had the opportunity to observe is paediatric chiropractic, and honestly… fascinating.

Watching an experienced practitioner work with such small bodies, using incredibly gentle approaches, reminded me just how adaptable children are.

But it also made me think about something else.

Our children are growing up differently from us. School and structured activities from a very young age. Screens. Sitting. Busy schedules. Less free movement. Constant stimulation.

We talk so much about adults being stressed and overloaded — but what about their little nervous systems?

I don’t believe every child needs constant treatment. But I do think we should pay much more attention to movement, physical connection, relaxation and appropriate hands-on care from an early age. This experience has definitely added another āœ”ļø to my future-learning list.

Mums & dads, have you ever considered paediatric chiropractic care for your child?

Your muscles called, they’re done with your nonsense. šŸ˜‚

If your shoulders are permanently up by your ears, your jaw is clenched 24/7, or your back is begging for mercy… this is your sign. Give your body the reset it’s been asking for. I promise you'll leave feeling more relaxed than I look šŸ„°šŸ˜‚

YOUR HIPS HAD A SUMMER TOO

We’re getting the kids ready for school, sorting uniforms, getting back to work and slowly returning to normal life…

But is your body ready to go back to routine?

Summer changes how we move more than we realise. Long drives. Different beds. Flip-flops. More walking. Less gym. More sitting. And possibly a few too many hours on a sun lounger.

Then September arrives and we expect our body to just… carry on. The hips and pelvis are often one of the first areas where I notice that change.

It can show up as:

šŸ‘‰ pain on the outside of the hip, often associated with GTPS
šŸ‘‰ tightness or discomfort at the front of the hip, often involving the hip flexors
šŸ‘‰ that familiar lower-back ache when the hips and pelvis aren't sharing the load particularly well

And that's why my deep tissue treatments aren't just about attacking the place that hurts. Sometimes we need to look at the hips, glutes, pelvis and lower back together.

Maybe before we MOT the school bags, diaries and September routine…

it's time for a little post-summer body MOT too.

As a massage therapist, I keep my nails short and wear no jewellery and it’s all for your comfort, not mine. šŸ¤

When you’re lying on my massage table, the last thing you should be thinking about is a sharp nail, a ring catching your skin, or a bracelet getting in the way.

Short, smooth nails allow me to work comfortably with my fingertips, while bare hands mean nothing gets in the way of those flowing massage movements.

It’s the little details that make a big difference when it comes to your experience. Because your massage should feel relaxing, comfortable and completely uninterrupted.

Apparently a dentist appointment is necessary… but a massage is a luxury?

It’s the school holidays, and I hear this a lot from mums:

ā€œI need to cancel, I don’t have childcare.ā€ But I also hear:

ā€œI feel guilty leaving the kids with someone just to come for a massage.ā€ And THAT part interests me.

We don’t usually feel guilty arranging childcare for the GP, dentist or physio. But massage? Somehow we still think:
ā€œThat’s something I’m doing for myself.ā€ But what if it isn’t simply a treat?

Especially when your therapist is rather annoyingly good at the therapeutic side of things.

If your back hurts, your neck isn’t moving properly, you’re exhausted, stressed or pain is affecting everyday life, looking after your body isn’t necessarily a luxury.

Because when Mum finally reaches the point where she can’t function, the whole household feels it. So maybe the question isn’t:

ā€œShould I feel guilty for taking 60–90 minutes for myself?ā€ Maybe it’s: ā€œWhy do I wait until something goes wrong before I give myself permission to look after my body?ā€

Mums, I’m curious - Would you feel guilty arranging childcare for a dentist appointment? Would you feel the same guilt for a massage? Why?

Yes you can get a cheaper massage elsewhere... but you can also get sushi at a gas station.

Price isn't the only thing that matters especially when it comes to your health and wellbeing.

A quality massage is more than just time on the table. It's understanding your body, listening to your concerns, using the right techniques, and creating a treatment that's tailored specifically to you. It's the difference between a quick rub-down and a session that actually helps you move better, feel better, and recover properly.

The cheapest option isn't always the best value. Investing in experienced, professional care means investing in your body, your recovery, and your peace of mind. Your body carries you through life every single day. It deserves more than the bargain option.
