Bank holiday weekend is here and suddenly we’ve created ourselves a three-day project plan. 😂

Catch up on the house.

Sort that cupboard.

Answer emails.

Do the jobs.

See everyone.

Get organised.

And somewhere in amongst all of that…

we forget to actually enjoy the extra day.

So try this:

Pick three things you genuinely want to get done.

Then choose one thing that is there purely because you enjoy it.

Lunch out.

A walk.

Coffee somewhere nice.

Reading.

Seeing someone you love.

Doing absolutely nothing for an hour.

Whatever feels good.

An extra day off doesn’t have to become an extra day of responsibility.

Leave some room in the weekend for the weekend.

➡️ Save this before you accidentally schedule every minute of your day.

One unanswered message.

One strange look.

One change of tone.

One tiny thing.

And suddenly your brain has created a full storyline around it.

That’s how overthinking can work.

It starts with something real…

Then adds possibility.

Then assumption.

Then fear.

Then certainty about something that hasn’t actually happened.

So next time you notice your thoughts stacking up, pause and ask….

What do I actually know?

And

What has my brain added?

Sometimes that little distinction is enough to stop one thought becoming ten.

➡️ Save this for the next time your brain starts filling in the gaps.

Being “the strong one” can look very impressive from the outside.

You keep going.

You sort things out.

You listen to everybody else.

You rarely ask for much.

And people start assuming:

“They’ll be fine.”

Sometimes you even start assuming it yourself.

But coping doesn’t always mean you’re okay.

And being capable doesn’t mean you should have to carry everything alone.

If you’re always the person everybody turns to, ask yourself…:

Who do I turn to?

Who gets to hear the version of you that isn’t holding everything together?

Who can you say “I’m struggling” to without immediately following it with “but I’ll be fine”?

You can be strong and still need support.

You can be independent and still need people.

You can be the one who usually copes and still have days when you don’t.

Functioning and being okay aren’t always the same thing.

If you recognise yourself in this and feel as though you’ve been carrying too much for too long, DM me to arrange a free 15-minute chat and find out how I can help.

Have you ever tried telling yourself….

“I’ll think about it later”

…only to find your brain brings it back five minutes later?

And then again.

And again.

Sometimes the problem isn’t that your brain won’t listen.

It’s that “later” is too vague.

If something feels unfinished, your mind can keep pulling it back into your attention because it doesn’t trust that it’s been dealt with.

So try this instead….

Write the thought down.

Give it a specific time.

Then physically put it somewhere.

A notebook.

A drawer.

A bowl.

Anywhere.

You’re not ignoring the thought.

You’re giving it a place to go.

And when it pops back up, remind yourself:

“It’s parked. I know when I’m coming back to it.”

That little bit of structure can make it much easier to step away.

If your brain constantly feels like it’s running in the background and you’d like help quietening it down, message me and we can arrange a free 15-minute chat and find out how I can help.

Two people can experience exactly the same thing…and react completely differently.

That doesn’t necessarily mean one is stronger.

Or calmer.

Or “better at coping”.

Because none of us arrives at that moment carrying exactly the same load.

One person may have slept brilliantly and had a relatively easy week.

Another may already be carrying poor sleep, work pressure, family worries, money worries, health concerns and a brain that hasn’t switched off for days.

Then the same little problem lands.

One glass has space.

The other spills over.

So the next time you catch yourself thinking:

“Why am I struggling with this when everybody else seems fine?”

Try asking: “How full was my glass before this happened?”

And perhaps extend the same thought to somebody else too.

We rarely know everything another person is carrying.

Sometimes it isn’t the size of what happened. It’s how much capacity was left when it happened.

➡️ Save this for the next time you find yourself comparing how you’re coping.

If someone’s tone changes, do you immediately wonder what you’ve done?

Do you replay the conversation?

Check your messages?

Start thinking of what you should say?

Or feel an urge to make everything okay again?

That can become such an exhausting way to live.

Especially if you’ve got used to being the person who keeps the peace, avoids conflict or takes responsibility for how everyone else is feeling.

But somebody else being quiet, stressed, distant or irritated does not automatically mean you’ve caused it.

And even when there is a genuine disagreement, you don’t have to lose yourself trying to make another person comfortable.

A useful question to ask is…

“Do I actually know there’s a problem, or am I filling in the gaps?”

You can care about people deeply without making their every mood your responsibility.

➡️ Save this for the next time your brain starts saying, “What have I done?”

And send it to someone who always thinks everybody’s mood is about them.

Do you wake up on Monday already feeling behind?

You haven’t even started the day…

But your brain is already thinking about Tuesday.

Wednesday.

The thing you need to remember on Friday.

That message you still haven’t answered.

The appointment next week.

And suddenly one day feels like seven.

That’s when overwhelm can kick in.

Not because everything needs doing right now.

But because your brain is presenting everything to you at once.

So today, try this…..

Write it all down.

Then choose the three things that genuinely need your attention TODAY.

And if three feels too much…Choose one.

The rest can stay on the page.

You don’t need to carry the whole week in your head.

You only need to know what comes next.

And if this feeling of constantly being mentally overloaded is becoming your normal, this is exactly the kind of thing I help people with.

“I’ll do it when things calm down.”

How many times have you said that?

I’ll rest when work is quieter.

I’ll see my friends when I’ve caught up.

I’ll go for that walk when the house is sorted.

I’ll book something nice when I’ve got more time.

But life has a funny way of filling whatever space we give it.

There’s always another job.

Another email.

Another responsibility.

Another thing that feels more urgent.

And if we keep waiting until everything is finished before we let ourselves enjoy life…

We may be waiting for a very long time.

So this week, try something different.

Open your diary.

Find one small pocket of time.

And put something in there that exists for no other reason than you enjoy it.

Not because it’s productive.

Not because someone else needs you.

Just because it makes life feel good.

Then protect it.

Sometimes calm isn’t something you find when life finally settles down.

Sometimes you have to make a little space for it while life is still happening.

What are you putting in your diary this week?

Sometimes the thing that makes you cry, snap or feel completely overwhelmed really is something tiny.

You lose your keys.

Someone uses the wrong tone.

Plans change.

You spill your coffee.

And afterwards you think:

“Why did I react like that?”

But maybe that tiny thing wasn’t the whole reason.

Maybe before it happened, your bowl was already almost full.

Poor sleep.

Work pressure.

Family worries.

Health concerns.

Money.

Overthinking.

Trying to keep everybody happy.

A hundred little things nobody else can see.

Then one more thing lands…

And there’s simply no space left.

So instead of asking:

“Why am I reacting so strongly?”

Try asking:

“What had already filled me up before this happened?”

Because sometimes the answer isn’t to toughen up or push through.

Sometimes it’s to create a little more space.

One thing you can leave until tomorrow.

One conversation you don’t need to replay.

One job you can ask for help with.

One expectation you can lower.

The final thing may have been small. But your capacity was already full.

➡️ Save this for the days when one tiny thing suddenly feels like everything.
