Connection is a basic human need

Children do not learn emotional regulation through isolation, shame, or disconnection. They learn it through feeling safe enough to borrow our calm, our presence, and our connection. In the hardest moments, children need relationship most — not because behaviour should be ignored, but because a regulated nervous system grows inside safe connection. Boundaries matter, but connection is what helps the brain become ready to hear, learn, and repair.

In PTSD, being overly critical of ourselves is one of the ways our symptoms of hypervigilance show up.
When you’ve lived in survival mode, your brain learned to catch problems fast.
And, sometimes it turns that skill inward.
Being overly critical isn’t failure.
It’s a nervous system that hasn’t learned it’s safe yet.
The first step toward healing is understanding our symptoms and giving ourselves grace.

This cycle can useful for awareness and to create change.

Abuse isn't always physical. Sometimes, it’s control, manipulation, and/or isolation.

Most people in abusive relationships don’t recognize it right away, because the cycle of abuse often starts with love.

And it's hard to leave because things don’t feel bad all the time.
There are moments of calm.
Moments that feel like things are okay again.
But the cycle keeps repeating.

tension
fear
apology
calm

Repeat...
Over and over.

Understanding this can help you recognize what’s really happening.
CPTSD often comes from long-term abuse you didn’t see at the time.

You deserved better.

Remember: Being on the receiving end of abuse is never your fault!
Abusive behavior is a deliberate choice to assert power and control.
Abusers are not misunderstood creatures, they make a deliberate and intentional choice to hurt people.

Love this❤️ Noticing that you have control to decide whether a thought is worth your attention is so empowering.

Not every thought deserves your attention, even if it sounds convincing. Notice it and let it go
