Are GLP-1 medications becoming the new form of yo-yo dieting? 💉🥗

If you’ve tried Ozempic, Wegovy, Saxenda or Mounjaro, lost weight, then regained it — or had to stop because of side effects — you are NOT failing.

Obesity is a chronic relapsing disease and the latest research shows that weight regain is common when you stop taking these medications.

GLP-1 medication is also expensive, and you deserve more than simply being prescribed a medication and left to figure out the rest yourself.

💚 The right support matters.

Effective weight management needs wrap-around care — including personalised dietary advice, support with behaviour change, managing expectations, and ongoing support when things get difficult.

Medication can be part of the solution, but it isn't the whole solution.

You deserve better than losing weight, stopping treatment, and being left to cope with regain alone.

Your journey deserves support, not a cycle.

Reach out. I'd love to help.💛

🥗 Nutrition Made Simple

Healthy eating doesn’t have to be complicated.

Build a Balanced Plate!

Add the following -

🍗 Protein — chicken, fish, eggs, beans, tofu
🥦 Vegetables / salad
🍚 Carbs— rice, potatoes, pasta, wholegrains
🥑 Healthy fats: avocado, nuts, seeds or olive oil
💧 And don’t forget to hydrate!

Food also needs to taste good. Otherwise boredom soon sets in.

The goal isn’t perfection — it’s creating balanced, nourishing meals that keep you satisfied and energised. 💚

✨ Simple plate. Balanced nutrition. Sustainable habits.

Will I regain weight after stopping a GLP-1?

The honest answer is many people regain weight— but it isn't inevitable.

GLP-1 medications reduce appetite, increase fullness and quieten "food noise." When treatment stops, these effects gradually wear off and your body's natural weight-regulation systems become more active. Hunger increases while fullness decreases, making weight maintenance more challenging.

📊 What does the research show?

• In the STEP 1 extension trial, participants regained around two-thirds of the weight they had lost within one year of stopping semaglutide. Despite this, they still remained below their starting weight on average.

• A 2026 BMJ systematic review and meta-analysis of 37 studies involving more than 9,000 participants estimated that people regained weight at an average rate of 0.4 kg per month after stopping weight-loss medication, with a projected return to pre-treatment weight by around 1.7 years on average. For newer GLP-1 medications such as semaglutide and tirzepatide, the projected time was around 1.5 years. These are modelled averages, so individual experiences vary.

The good news? Weight regain isn't inevitable.

Long-term success is more likely when healthy habits continue after treatment, including:

✅ Eating enough protein to preserve muscle
🌾 Getting plenty of fibre each day
🏋️ Strength training
🚶 Staying physically active
😴 Prioritising sleep
👩‍⚕️ Working with your healthcare team to develop a long-term maintenance plan.

For some people, this may include ongoing medication or a gradual reduction in dose where appropriate.

Obesity is a chronic, relapsing condition, not a failure of willpower. For many people, GLP-1 medications are part of long-term management, just as medicines for high blood pressure or cholesterol are.

💚The goal isn't just about losing weight—it's building habits that help you maintain your health for the long term.

Can We Stop Doing This? Here's What I'm No Longer Tolerating. 💛

There are a few things that I just don't have the energy for anymore...

I'm no longer tolerating comments about people's bodies. Whether someone has lost weight, gained weight, or stayed exactly the same—it doesn't need to be a conversation.

I'm no longer tolerating comments about what people are eating. We don't know someone's relationship with food, their health, or what's going on in their life. Let people enjoy their meal without turning it into a discussion.

I'm no longer tolerating fat shaming. It's harmful, it's outdated, and it has no place in a world where we're trying to support people's health and wellbeing.

And I'm definitely no longer tolerating the judgment around people taking GLP-1 medications. Those decisions are personal. You don't know someone's medical history, what they've been through, or the conversations they've had with their healthcare team. It simply isn't ours to judge.

At the end of the day, other people's bodies, food choices, and healthcare decisions are none of our business.

I'd love to see more kindness, less judgment, and a little more compassion for one another.

Who's with me? ❤️

GLP-1 medications don't just reduce appetite—they increase the importance of nutrition.

If you're taking medications like Wegovy®or Mounjaro®, it's not enough to simply eat less. The latest European consensus from the EASO, EFAD & ECPO highlights that good nutritional care is essential to maximise weight loss while protecting your health.

Key takeaways:

✔️ Prioritise protein & resistance exercise to preserve muscle mass
✔️ Stay hydrated and include adequate fibre to support gut health
✔️ Choose nutrient-dense foods when appetite is low
✔️ Eat smaller, slower meals to help manage nausea and reflux
✔️ Monitor for vitamin and mineral deficiencies, particularly during rapid weight loss
✔️ Individualised nutrition support should be part of obesity treatment—not an afterthought.

Successful obesity management isn't just about losing weight—it's about maintaining muscle, meeting your nutritional needs, and supporting long-term health.
