Music Therapy Connections NI

Music Therapy Connections NI Music Therapy Connections NI is small locially run business making therapy accessible to all Ireland.

Music Therapy Connections NI (CIC) was established by Emma Donnelly who is a Health Professions Council (HCPC) registered Music Therapist. MTCNI is a not for profit community interest company providing a Music Therapy service for children, young people and adults in N. Emma Donnelly specialises in working with both young children and adults with an array of conditions. Her experience and knowledg

e is extensive; she is not only a Music Therapist but also a special needs teacher, piano teacher and fitness instructor
MTCNI provides:
• Individual music therapy sessions
• Group music therapy sessions
• Music Therapy workshops
• Mother and baby music classes
• Training workshops
MTCNI is currently working in a wide range of facilities including:
• Schools- both special and mainstream
• Parent support groups
• Crèches
• Outpatient well-being centers
• Adult day care services
• Community groups
• Residential homes

Music Therapy Connections NI also aims to break the isolation of working as a self-employed music therapist in N. This network aims to bring Music Therapists together to share information, resources, job opportunities, links and case studies etc. The primary aim of the MTCNI is to develop strong contacts and links with other music therapists, to improve access to knowledge of clinical practice, empirical research and specialist training, thereby improving awareness of music therapy within N. With your help I would like to arrange a coffee morning once a month or each quarter where Music Therapists across N. Ireland would meet to liaise, make connections, present case studies, offer advice etc.

Building coordination, crossing the midline and developing bilateral motor skills all through rhythm, movement and fun. These are important skills needed for everyday tasks. Therapy doesn't always look like therapy and that's the magic of music therapy! Watch for the funny ending 🤣

Regulation isn't just about calming a child down. Sometimes the goal is helping them *level up* their energy so they're ready to connect and engage..Autism Level UP. A child who looks quiet or calm isn't always regulated. Through child-led, playful experiences like movement, music and the hammock, we're supporting the nervous system to find its "just right" state. When a child feels safe and regulated, opportunities for connection, communication and engagement can emerge.

Summer sessions just wouldn't be complete without this wee man! It''s hard to believe I've had the privilege of working with him since he was just a tiny tot. Watching him grow in confidence over the years has been so special.

He absolutely loves a microphone and can keep an amazing steady beat on the drum. Looking forward to another summer of making music together! 🥁🎤🎶

A few clips to celebrate this wonderful girl's journey in music therapy. It has been a joy to watch her grow in confidence and develop a love of shared music-making. I even got a little wave today which made my day! Looking forward to seeing where her musical curiosity takes her next

The peanut roll brought all the fun and laughter today!! The movement and deep pressure help support regulation, body awareness and attention, while the shape of the roll encourages core stability and postural control.

Music therapy isn't always sitting at a piano.
Sometimes it's movement, play, laughter and and a whole lot of going with the flow. 💙✨

Two sessions. Same school. Same therapist. Completely different therapeutic spaces.

This is the beauty of music therapy.

Music therapy is child-led and neuroaffirming. We follow the child their interests, strengths, sensory needs, regulation, and what they bring into the room that day.

Sometimes therapy looks like instruments and singing and sometimes it looks like play, movement, sensory exploration, or imagination.

Every child engages differently and that is exactly as it should be
