Rain, glare, reflections and reduced visibility can all make driving more demanding – particularly as the evenings start getting darker. Make sure your glasses are clean and in good condition, and if you’re finding driving increasingly difficult, speak to us Your glasses should help you see the road clearly, not add another distraction.

Even when the temperature has dropped, UV exposure doesn't disappear.

A good pair of sunglasses can help protect your eyes from UV while making bright days much more comfortable. And yes, sunglasses can be useful beyond the beach – think driving, walking the dog, watching sport or simply enjoying a bright afternoon outdoors. Do you wear your sunglasses all year round?

Your glasses should feel comfortable, sit securely and work well for the things you actually do every day. Driving? Working at a screen? Reading? Spending lots of time outdoors? Your visual needs can change over time – and sometimes you don't realise how much you rely on your glasses until something isn't quite right.

A balanced diet, regular physical activity, not smoking and protecting your eyes from excessive UV exposure can all form part of a healthy lifestyle.Think colourful fruit and vegetables, leafy greens, a variety of nutritious foods and plenty of time outdoors. And don’t forget your sunglasses when you need them. Look for sunglasses that provide 100% UV protection.

Your eyes are worth protecting all year round – not just during National Eye Health Week.

If your eyes ever feel tired, dry or uncomfortable after a long day looking at screens?

Long periods of screen use can contribute to digital eye strain, particularly when we concentrate for a long time without taking breaks.

Try the 20-20-20 approach: every 20 minutes, look at something around 20 feet away for about 20 seconds. It can also help to remember to blink regularly, adjust your screen position and make sure the lighting around you is comfortable.

Small changes can make a difference to how your eyes feel.

Some eye conditions can develop gradually, so you may not notice anything is changing. That’s one reason regular eye examinations are important – even if you think your eyesight is fine. An eye examination isn’t simply a check to see whether you need new glasses. Your optometrist also looks at the health of your eyes and can advise you about your individual eye health.

If you’ve been putting off your next appointment, National Eye Health Week is a good reminder to get it booked.

National Eye Health Week: your eyes deserve a little attention.

We use our eyes from the moment we wake up until we go to bed, but how often do we actually think about looking after them? Good eye health isn’t just about having clear vision. Regular eye examinations can check how well you can see and may also pick up signs of certain eye conditions and other health problems, sometimes before you notice any changes yourself.

This National Eye Health Week, we’re sharing some simple ways to look after your eyes – and the signs you shouldn’t ignore.
