Preparing for your child with allergies for school? Here are some key things to check with the school before term starts:

Arrange a meeting with the school to discuss your child’s allergies and care plan
Make sure staff know where medication & AAIs are stored
Check who is trained to respond to an allergic reaction
Teach your child not to share food or accept treats from others
Ask about allergy policies, lunch safety & risk assessments
Encourage allergy awareness and anti-bullying education in school
Ensure emergency action plans are up to date and easily accessible
Speak with catering staff about safe meal options if needed

A little preparation can help your child feel safer, supported and confident at school

☀️ Heat exhaustion and heatstroke can happen faster than you think — especially during hot weather, exercise, or long periods in the sun. Knowing the signs could help save a life.

🟠 Heat Exhaustion symptoms:

• Headache
• Dizziness
• Excessive sweating
• Muscle cramps
• Feeling sick or very thirsty
• Temperature of 38°C+

➡️ Move to a cool place, hydrate, rest, and cool the body down.

🔴 Heatstroke is a medical emergency:

• Confusion or loss of consciousness
• Seizure/fit
• No sweating despite feeling very hot
• Temperature of 40°C+

🚨 Call emergency services immediately if you suspect heatstroke.

Stay hydrated, wear light clothing, and check on vulnerable friends, family, and neighbours during hot days. 💧☀️

🥵 Hot nights can make sleep uncomfortable for all of us, but for babies and toddlers, high heat at night can be dangerous.

❗️Babies and toddlers can overheat quickly. The risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) is higher in babies who get too hot.

💚But there are lots of things you can do to help keep your child safe while sleeping during warm weather:

✅ Keep the room temperature between 16–20°C
✅ Use a fan to cool the room (but don’t point it directly at baby)
✅ Dress baby in a single layer, like a vest or nappy only
✅ Keep the curtains closed during the daytime so the room doesn’t heat up as much
✅ Avoid using loose blankets or bulky bedding

💚Remember: a cool baby is a safe baby.

184 children and young people needed specialist burn care from BBQ injuries in 2025.

For parents, that's a powerful reminder that something as simple as a garden BBQ can quickly become dangerous, especially with curious little ones nearby.

According to the London Fire Brigade, BBQs should always be used outdoors, placed on flat ground, and kept well away from fences, sheds, and anything that can catch fire.

But just as importantly for families is to create a clear "no-go zone" around the BBQ so children can't wander too close.
Never leave a BBQ unattended, even for a moment. Avoid using petrol or other accelerants, and once you're finished, make sure it's completely cooled before moving or disposing of it.

Little hands, fast feet, and open flames do not mix! With a few simple precautions, your BBQ can stay a safe and fun part of summer.

Enjoy a happy and injury-free sunny bank holiday

Around 1 in 5 women experience mental health problems during pregnancy or within the early postnatal years. We just might not see it openly.

70% will hide or underplay their illness.

Perinatal mental health problems are one of the leading causes of death for women during pregnancy and the year after birth.

Perinatal mental health problems such as antenatal or postnatal depression, anxiety, postpartum psychosis, OCD can range from mild to severe and a lot of cases go unseen, undiagnosed and untreated.

Untreated perinatal mental health problems can cause avoidable suffering, damage families, impact on children, and even cause death or serious injury.

Did your mental health suffer before, during or after pregnancy? Where did you go for help or what did you do to help yourself, let us and our followers know in the comments 💚
