Once in every block of reformer classes I like to get the other studio equipment out. Normally this equipment is used during private sessions but I’ve been experimenting with how to give more clients a chance to use it! With the exception of maybe matwork, Joseph Pilates never meant his method to be practiced collectively in a choreographed class. Working on the Cadillac, chair, ladder barrel alongside the reformer allows clients to have a fuller experience of the Pilates method. Exercises can be tailored to the individual so they align with the individuals needs or goals. So how does it work in practice? Well each class is divided in two with three people working semi-independently through reformer exercises they are familiar and comfortable with while I guide the other three through exercises on the other equipment. After 30mins we swap around. I won’t lie, it challenges my teaching because I try to plan exercises for each individual- but after nearly 20years of teaching I need to keep challenging myself! I think my clients enjoy it😉 and it delivers a bit more than the average Pilates studio….
