Towell House Residential Home

Towell House Residential Home Towell House is a large residential home in East Belfast. Mr Towell was born in Donacloney, County Down in March 1872.

TOWELL HOUSE
A BRIEF HISTORY

In the early 1950โ€™s the late David Towell gifted a sum of money to The Towell Building Trust Ltd with the express purpose of opening a residential care home for older people of limited means. As a young man he moved to London and eventually established several successful tailoring business outlets. On retirement in 1946 Mr Towell and his wife continued their deep inte

rest in social issues, contributing generously to a number of charities. They also decided to support the building of a residential care home in Northern Ireland and gifted funds to the Towell Trust which was formed to build what became known as Towell House. The Home was officially opened on 2nd October 1958 by the Lady Wakehurst, wife of the then Governor of Northern Ireland. Towell House was the first purpose built home of its kind in Belfast. Sadly, due to declining health, neither Mr Towell nor his wife, who pre-deceased him, were able to visit the Home but Mr Towell maintained an eager interest in the Home until his death in November 1960. The Home has now operated most successfully for over fifty years โ€“ a new wing was opened in 1998 and the current Board of Directors are presently considering the future development of Towell House. The home has enjoyed another extension to the property with the er****on of a delivery and storage facility. This has been a welcome addition, improving the front entrance for residents and visitors. We've enjoyed two lovely outings this week! โ˜€๏ธ

Tonight, a group of residents joined us for a wee jaunt in the cars to meet Paddington Bear in Ards before enjoying an ice cream in the sunshine in the Square๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿป

Last night, we headed to the Titanic Quarter for a dander around HMS Caroline. The residents really enjoyed walking around the outside of the ship, taking in its impressive size and learning more about its history.

It's been a wonderful couple of evenings making the most of the good weather and getting out and about together. ๐Ÿ’™

๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ’š Fresh from our garden to our kitchen! ๐ŸŒฟ

Our residents enjoyed harvesting fresh herbs from our garden, including rosemary, parsley and chives๐ŸŒฑ

It has been wonderful to see everyone working together, and the freshly picked herbs made the perfect addition to a delicious roast dinner prepared by our kitchen team. ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿณโœจ

From garden to plate, it's always rewarding to see our residents enjoy the fruits of their hard work. We can't wait to see what we'll harvest next! ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ˜Š
