🎉 THE PIANO DOCTOR CHALLENGE #3 — RESULTS!

Well... this one certainly got a few of you scratching your heads! 😂

Our official answer was 12 identifiable differences, all circled below. 👀

A few particularly eagle-eyed people may have spotted some additional tiny variations in shading, colouring and detail. We haven't counted those — otherwise we'd probably still be here at Christmas arguing over individual pixels while we all zoom-in 800%!! 😂

For the challenge, we counted the clear differences in objects/features rather than minor variations in the artwork/colouration itself.

And after checking the entries, only ONE person managed to get the correct answer AND follow the entry instructions by tagging three piano-loving friends...

🎹 **Piano tuning with a sea view today!** 🌊

Work took me up to **Portrush** today, and with a little time between appointments, there was really only one sensible option — fish & chips beside the sea. 🐟🍟

Not a bad way to spend a lunch break... particularly when the sun decides to make an appearance in Northern Ireland! ☀️😂
A quick wander afterwards, a few photos, and then back to work.

I even resisted the temptation to have a go on the bumper cars...
**That's the sort of professionalism our customers can rely on.** 😇😂

Some days the job takes you to nicer places than others. Today was definitely one of them. 🎹🌊

Next stage in the workshop… 🎹🔧

Before these hammer butts can be re-drilled for their new shanks, there’s one rather important detail to get right — finding the centre! 🎯

Each one is carefully measured and marked to establish the centre of the new drill hole before heading to the drill press.

A small mark on a small piece of wood… but getting it wrong at this stage can make a rather big difference later! 😬

Next stop: drilling! 👀

Rather than make another special trip, we'd love to fill those remaining slots on the same days.

A little behind-the-scenes piano workshop work… 🎹🔧

These hammer heads have had their old shanks removed and are now being carefully sanded and prepared for **re-drilling and fitting onto new shanks**.

Not the most glamorous part of piano restoration perhaps — but getting the preparation right here makes all the difference when everything goes back together! 👌

At first glance, this might just look like a collection of bits of wood and felt.

In fact, it's the action from an old over-damper piano.

These were commonly found in British/European pianos built pre-WW2. Unlike modern pianos, the dampers sit above the hammers rather than below them.

They're fascinating pieces of engineering and an important part of piano history, although they were inferior to the under-damper design that succeeded them.

We still come across these wonderful old instruments from time to time, and it's always a pleasure to keep another little piece of history playing. 🎹
