Summer events need more than a good line-up 🎸🚑

Over the weekend, Paragon Healthcare Services provided medical cover at The Summer Series at Custom House Square, Belfast.

With open-air music back in full swing, weekends like this are a good reminder of how much planning sits behind a successful event. Crowds, access points, weather, alcohol, welfare, timings and medical response all need thought through before the first person arrives on site.

Our team was there to provide calm, professional medical support throughout the event, helping organisers keep the focus where it should be: on people enjoying the day safely.

eALS is coming up next month

There are only a few places left for our next Resuscitation Council UK eAdvanced Life Support course, running on Friday 17 July.

If you work in acute care, emergency response, resuscitation or clinical outreach, Advanced Life Support is not just another course on the list. It is training that connects directly to the situations you may be expected to manage.

Resuscitation Council UK’s eALS course blends a day of e-learning with a full day of face-to-face practical learning, using simulations, workshops, lectures and skill stations to strengthen both knowledge and hands-on response.

The course supports healthcare professionals to develop the skills required to:

•⁠ ⁠Recognise and manage the deteriorating patient using an ABCDE approach
•⁠ ⁠Deliver standardised adult CPR
•⁠ ⁠Manage cardiac arrest as part of a multidisciplinary team
•⁠ ⁠Use non-technical skills as both a team member and leader

This course is designed for doctors, paramedics and nurses working in areas such as ED, CCU, ICU, HDU, operating theatres, acute medical admissions units, resuscitation teams, medical emergency teams and Critical Care Outreach.

Not just policies and posters

Earlier this week at Galgorm, Paragon was pleased to take part in the Healthy Working Lives Conference.

It was a good chance to speak with HR professionals, managers and workplace leaders about the very practical side of workplace wellbeing.

Because healthy working lives are not just built through policies and posters. They are shaped by what happens day to day. How teams are supported. How risks are managed. How prepared people feel when a colleague becomes unwell, gets injured, or needs help.

That is where the right training and support makes a real difference.

We had some great conversations around first aid, healthcare training, workplace safety and how organisations can put stronger foundations in place for their teams.

For clinicians at the sharp end of resuscitation

Advanced Life Support is specialist training for healthcare professionals who need to recognise deterioration, deliver effective adult CPR and work clearly within a clinical emergency team.

Resuscitation Council UK’s eALS course combines one day of e-learning with one full day of face-to-face practical learning, bringing the core knowledge into simulations, workshops and skill stations.

Across the course, candidates develop the knowledge and skills required to:

•⁠ ⁠Recognise and manage the deteriorating patient using a structured ABCDE approach
•⁠ ⁠Deliver standardised adult CPR
•⁠ ⁠Manage cardiac arrest as part of a multidisciplinary team
•⁠ ⁠Use non-technical skills to contribute effectively as both a team member and leader

The ALS provider course is designed for healthcare professionals who need Advanced Life Support as part of their clinical duties, as well as those who teach these skills regularly.

This includes doctors, paramedics and nurses working in acute care areas such as ED, CCU, ICU, HDU, operating theatres, acute medical admissions units, resuscitation teams, medical emergency teams or Critical Care Outreach.

Low-risk does not mean no-risk

Did you know HSE figures show hundreds of thousands of workers sustain non-fatal injuries at work each year?

That does not mean every workplace needs to feel high risk. It means the basics still matter, even in offices where the day usually runs smoothly. A fall on the stairs, someone choking at lunch, a head injury, a bleed, a colleague becoming unwell. They are the moments people never expect, but still need to be ready for.

First Aid at Work Level 3 (FAW) gives your team clear, structured training across a range of workplace first aid conditions, including CPR, bleeding, unconsciousness, choking, head injuries, sprains and strains.
