Three questions worth asking any home care company before you sign anything:

Will it be the same carer or whoever’s free that day?
What happens when my carer is on holiday or off sick?
Can I meet them before we start?

These came up yesterday afternoon at the Age NI session we sponsored and they’re the right questions. Ask them of us. Ask them of everyone.

It was a brilliant afternoon. A singer who had the whole room going, plenty of tea and a good crowd. That’s half the point of these sessions: a reason to get out of the house see a familiar face and have a proper conversation with someone. For a lot of people that matters as much as any service we provide.

Stephen and Bushra from our team were there to talk through what help is available locally in the Newtownabbey area and to answer the awkward questions honestly.

Last week our Community Engagement Officer Stephen joined the 309 Senior Citizens Group in North Belfast.

Thank you to Rosemary for the invitation to talk about how we help people stay independent at home and connected to their communities.

It was a joy to meet a room full of friendly faces, and to chat over refreshments with Marian, Frances and Margaret (pictured), who shared a refreshingly practical view of the care they’d like to stay independent at home.

The earlier you know, the more you can do: A dementia diagnosis matters.

That’s why we’re calling for a new ‘national standard’ for dementia diagnosis. Meaning that after being referred by their GP, everyone with dementia receives a diagnosis, a care plan, and, where appropriate, begins treatment - all within 18 weeks.
