Laura Gormley-McLaughlin, Mental Health Liaison Service Manager at the Western Trust, was named runner-up in the Leadership Award, sponsored by the Ulster Independent Clinic.

She was recognised for leading the successful implementation of the liaison service across the Trust, managing a multidisciplinary team that connects acute hospitals, mental health services, and community partners. Known for her innovative approach, Laura has contributed to award-winning projects and continues to advance her expertise through PhD research. A strong advocate for staff development, co-production, and lifelong learning, her nominator highlighted that she “prioritises nurturing and developing staff,” while the judging panel described her as a strategic nurse leader, commending her innovation and ability to inspire others.

It was a privilege to join colleagues from across Northern Ireland in celebrating nursing excellence at the RCN Northern Ireland Nurse of the Year Awards 2026.

We were delighted to sponsor the Leadership Award, recognising the outstanding contribution nurse leaders make every day in supporting their colleagues, advocating for the profession and helping to shape how care is delivered.

Congratulations to Lorna Nevin, this year’s Leadership Award recipient, and to all nominees and winners for the difference they make to patients and their families every day.

Lorna Nevin, from the Coleraine area won the Leadership Award, sponsored by The Ulster Independent Clinic. As a Nurse Consultant with the Public Health Agency, Lorna is a highly respected nurse leader who has shaped cancer services across Northern Ireland through strategic leadership and a clear focus on patient-centred care.

Her nominator says that “Lorna embodies the very best of nursing leadership and is an outstanding ambassador for the profession.”

Congrats to all!! 🏃‍♀️

This year, we were delighted to have two teams of nurses from The Ulster Independent Clinic running the Belfast Marathon relay for us! 🙌🏽

Our sincerest thanks to: Grace Greenaway, Helen Ford, Jenny Christie, Claire Donnelly, Ashleigh Crawford, Claire Reilly, Rachael Dobbin, Meghan Todd, Katie Sweeney and Andrew McErlean 💜

They gave up their precious free time to train for the relay and fundraise for our charity! 💪

To date, they’ve raised over £2,500 for incredABLE! 👏

We’re extremely grateful to them for stepping up for incredABLE and stepping out on Sunday! 🏃🏃‍♀️

We hope they all enjoyed the experience! The sun stayed out, even if it was a bit chilly at times, but the atmosphere was electric! 😎
