Lovely class this evening proving that simple can be effective and using props can present a deeper sensation in our practice.

Thank you to all the lovely people who came along tonight, I am so grateful to get to share this practice with you all.

See you next week? 😜

PS - next week is all about bolsters, so come along prepared for some serious relaxation!

Yogaś citta-vṛtti-nirodhaḥ

Yoga is the calming or stilling of the fluctuations of the mind.

This might be through the breath, meditation, focused study, devotion to something bigger than yourself.

This might be through weight training, Zumba classes or HIIT.

It could be in an Ashtanga, Iyengar, Vinyasa, Restorative or Yin practice.

Yoga is about taming the fleeting thoughts of the mind and finding a space of inner calm and stillness - even if this is only for a small moment.

So before you tell yourself that you could never practice yoga because you have tight hamstrings, shoulders etc. Have a think about what yoga actually means - maybe you've been practicing all along and didn't really know it?

How do you practice yoga? Let me know 👇

R E T U R N

August has a sense of returning about it - the kids return to school, the weather returns to normal (!) and a sense of routine returns to our days.

This makes August the perfect time to curate a routine that will see you through the changing of the seasons, tend to your wellbeing and give you a sense of belonging.

If this sounds like something you would like to return to, then consider this your invitation to step into a serene sanctuary at one of my yoga classes.

Whether you are a beginner, a beginner again, or a seasoned practitioner, there will be a warm welcome and smile waiting for you. This is a space where you are invited to be yourself, to accept where you are currently and to nurture the version of you that you are becoming.

Are you ready to return?

Yin Yoga / Thursdays / 7.15pm-8.15pm / The Ripple Effect, Holytown
* this month our theme is all about support - using props in creative ways to support our yoga practice, spending time nurturing our energy and returning to familiar routines.

Immersive Yoga / Saturdays / 10.15am-11.15am / Motherwell Library
* the theme this month is grounding, focusing on our foundations then growing from there. This is a time to settle in, root down and allow the strength of our foundations to help us rise up.
NB - no class Saturday 8 August

Self Care Sunday / 23 August / 10am-1pm / The Ripple Effect, Holytown
* you are invited to a mini-retreat where the theme is nourishing your own wellbeing. Think chocolate yoga, connecting the senses with movement, seasonal meridian meditation to balance and restore, and a few other surprises.

All classes and events can be booked - https://bookwhen.com/yogabygillian

My heart is full and I am beyond grateful to the lovely people who have signed up to join me for my first ever Introduction to Meditation workshop this Friday.

This has been something I've wanted to share for quite some time and I'm nervous and excited.

There is 1 space available if you've been thinking about coming along, but you're not too sure.

See you all on Friday evening!

I started meditating to calm my mind and help tame the anxiety monster who was ruling (and ruining) my life.

⏩ Fast forward many years and I've dipped in and out of a daily practice, but I keep coming back to it. Here's why:

😊 meditating makes me nicer - I let people go at junctions, I pet puppies and smile at children
😴 meditating helps me fall asleep easier and stay asleep for longer (this helps with the point above too!)
🐵 meditating stops me from getting caught up in believing all the garbage my brain tells me
🤫 meditating is time for me! No lists, no meetings, no pressures, it's just for me.

But the top reason I meditate is because it is teaching me to like myself for who I am - imperfect, fidgety, distracted but trying!

Do you meditate? Let me know why you practice in the comments 👇

This is the key word in meditation, can we do whatever we are doing with 'mindful' awareness.

This meditation practice is called 4-Finger Mudra and I learned it from my lovely yin teacher.

With complete attention in the breath, I can remain in the moment, drawing each fingertip towards my thumb.

My focus is intentional, the movement is mindful, my mind is settled - but I'm not being still.

There is no 'one ideal' way to meditate, other than the one that's right for you. Some will prefer stillness, quiet, no distractions. While others need movement, music and company.

The important part is that we take time to explore, to find what works for us and build a collection of tools to use throughout the journey.

Meditation is a skill for life. When you've learned how to practice, you can personalise it to suit your daily requirements.

Come learn to meditate with me and let's work out how you can get started.

Will I see you there?

Could you do with an hour for yourself?

That's one of the reasons people start coming along to my classes. They stay because of how they feel afterwards - better sleep, less aches/pains, calmer mind, more even mood...

My classes have never been about being flexible or perfect - far from it. They're about slowing down, taking one breath at a time and leaving with a little bit more calm than when you walked in.

This week I have a few offerings and I would love to invite you along.

Saturday 10.15am-11.15am
This week we're focusing on happiness, and will have a guided relaxation using essential oils to encourage deeper relaxation.
Immersive Room, Motherwell Library

Thursday 7.15pm-8.15pm
The Ripple Effect, Holytown Main Street
Struggling to sleep? This is the class for you. We'll be focusing in on deep relaxation in this seated or laying down class.

Friday 7pm-8.30pm
The Ripple Effect, Holytown Main Street
Introduction to Meditation workshop - an invitation to learn more about meditation and have a cup of tea.

Classes are small, friendly and come with plenty of guidance, a relaxed atmosphere, and the encouragement to have a go with no pressure to keep up with anyone else.

If you've been thinking, "Maybe I should give yoga a try...", this could be your sign.

Feel free to comment below or send me a message if you'd like to know which class would suit you best. I'd be happy to help. 💚

Thank you to the lovely people who have practiced with me at Yin Yoga - Moonshine this evening. I have truly been loving sharing some moon magic and yoga with you all.

Next week is our final week of this block, but August is a fresh start. Yin Yoga will continue in August and we'll be exploring a new them.

If you've never tried Yin or haven't been in a while, this is officially the best time to start. Each week we will add another layer onto this subtle practice, giving you the chance to end the summer season rested, refreshed and ready to move forwards.

This is a welcoming class where you're encouraged to do what you can. No pressure.
No perfection. Just presence.

I hope to see you at class next Thursday.
