Sometimes anxiety isn’t telling us the truth.

It can take one small worry and turn it into “everything is going to go wrong.”
Or one mistake into “I’m useless.”
Or someone not replying into “they must be annoyed with me.”

These are called cognitive distortions — patterns of thinking that can make anxious thoughts feel like facts.

In counselling, we can gently notice these patterns together, without judging them or trying to simply “think positive”. We can explore where they come from, question whether they’re actually true, and find a kinder, more balanced way of looking at things.

You don’t have to believe every thought your anxiety gives you. 💛

If anxiety is taking up too much space in your life, I can help.

This really works
Give it a try this week 🥰

HELPFUL TIP:
Placing your hand on your heart while taking 5 deep breaths activates your parasympathetic nervous system and releases oxytocin. This gentle self touch tells your brain that you are safe and loved 🥰

You know that thing anxiety does?

You’re sitting there, perfectly peacefully, drinking your coffee…

…and suddenly your brain goes:

“Right. Let’s think about that embarrassing thing you did in 2007.”

Or:

“What if everyone secretly dislikes you?”

Or my personal favourite:

“You haven’t worried about anything for at least 20 minutes. Should we be concerned?” 😂

Anxiety can be incredibly convincing. It tells us that worrying is preparing us. That if we think through every possible disaster, we’ll somehow prevent it.

So we think.

And think.

And think some more.

Until we’ve mentally planned for 17 different catastrophes, none of which have actually happened.

The trouble is, anxiety doesn’t usually need a solution.

It needs certainty.

And unfortunately, life is a bit rubbish at providing that.

So sometimes the kindest thing we can do isn’t to argue with every anxious thought or desperately try to make it go away.

Sometimes it’s simply:

“Ah. There you are, anxiety. I see you’re having another little committee meeting.”

Then take a breath.

Come back to what is actually happening right now.

You don’t have to solve tomorrow today.

And you definitely don’t have to attend every meeting your anxious brain invites you to. ❤️

As a therapist, I'm starting to feel uneasy about how much "nervous system work" is drifting into emotional suppression.

If you're constantly calming your anger or regulating your anxiety before you've actually felt it - before you've understood where it's coming from - you're not building internal safety.

You're teaching your nervous system that these feelings are something dangerous that need to be escaped.

Anxiety and the week ahead.

Ah, Monday evening.

The weekend is officially over and your brain has helpfully decided that now is the perfect time to start worrying about EVERYTHING that might happen this week. 🙄

What if that meeting goes badly? 😒
What if I can’t cope? 😢
What if something goes wrong? 😞
What if I forget something? 🤨

And before you know it, you’ve mentally lived through the entire week — and it’s only Monday.

If that sounds familiar, try bringing yourself back to today.

You don’t have to solve Friday’s problems on Monday. You don’t even have to know how the week is going to go.

For tonight, perhaps just focus on what’s actually in front of you. A cup of tea. A bit of telly. A bath. The dog. A book. Whatever helps you feel a little more like yourself.

Anxiety wants certainty about the future. Unfortunately, the future is rather rubbish at providing it. 😂

So take this week as it comes. One day at a time. ❤️

It's never too late to build the life you want, one that you're delighted to show up to each day.
It doesn't have to be perfect, it just has to be yours 😊

I like flaws
I am most comfortable around those who have them. Those not afraid to be real, be vulnerable & be messy.
I myself am made up entirely of flaws, stitched back together with the greatest of intentions 🦯🧵❤️

Bravery isn’t always loud.

Sometimes bravery is getting out of bed when your mind is telling you to stay there. It’s making the phone call you’ve been putting off, walking into a room where you don’t know anyone, having the difficult conversation, setting a boundary, or admitting that you’re struggling. Sometimes it’s simply trying again after life has knocked you sideways.

We often think brave people don’t feel afraid. The truth is, they do. They just don’t let fear have the final say. Courage isn’t the absence of fear—it’s taking one small step alongside it.

If you’re facing something difficult today, be gentle with yourself. You don’t have to leap. You don’t have to have it all figured out. Just take the next small step. Those tiny moments of courage have a wonderful way of growing into confidence.

You are probably much braver than you give yourself credit for 😊
