We're delighted to see our Group Catering Manager, Richard Glover, featured in the NACC Care Chef of the Year 2026 Competition.

Richard recently represented Milford Care at the regional heats held at Loughborough College, competing alongside talented care chefs from across the country. The competition celebrates the incredible skill, creativity and dedication that care chefs bring to the care sector every day.

At Milford Care, we know that great food plays an important role in wellbeing, bringing people together, promoting independence, and creating meaningful moments for residents. Richard's passion for nutritious, high-quality dining experiences helps shape mealtimes across all of our homes.

🏆 From Care Kitchen to Competition Kitchen! 👨‍🍳

We're incredibly proud of Richard Glover, Group Catering Manager for Milford Care and Head Chef at Ashbourne Lodge, who recently represented Milford Care in the Midlands Semi-Final of the prestigious NACC Care Chef of the Year Competition.

Competing against some of the region's most talented care chefs, Richard showcased the skill, creativity and nutritional expertise that sit behind every meal served to our residents. His carefully designed menu was not only nutritious and visually appealing but was also shaped with the help of those who matter most – our residents.

Before competition day, Ashbourne Lodge residents sampled dishes and shared their feedback, helping Richard refine his menu and bringing our Montessori-inspired approach to life through meaningful involvement and choice.

This latest achievement follows Richard's recent Creative Nutrition Award win at the Dementia Care Awards, further highlighting his passion for enhancing health, wellbeing and quality of life through exceptional food.

Happy World Book Day! 📖💜

Today we’re celebrating something truly meaningful across all Six Milford Care homes — our Montessori‑inspired dementia‑friendly book clubs, which have now run nearly 2,200 sessions since 2019!
Every week, residents come together to enjoy specially designed Montessori Reading Books, created to help people living with dementia continue reading with confidence, comfort and enjoyment.

These books follow the Dementia the Montessori Way approach and are:
✨ Written in short, clear sections
✨ Printed in large, easy‑to‑read font
✨ Factual and nostalgic (not abstract stories)
✨ Created to spark conversation, reminiscence and connection
✨ Accessible for people well into their dementia journey

Each title is shaped with residents in mind — and often with residents’ suggestions — helping everyone feel involved, valued and part of something meaningful.

This year’s new books include:
📘 The Story of Time
📗 Springtime
📙 An Anthology of Poems
📕 Laughter – The Best Therapy

❄️ A Huge Thank You to Our Incredible Maintenance Teams! ❄️

Today and over the coming days, our homes are facing challenging winter weather, but thanks to the dedication and hard work of our amazing maintenance staff, every path and driveway is being cleared of snow.

Because of their efforts:
✅ Staff can safely get to work
✅ Relatives can visit their loved ones
✅ Ambulances and essential services can arrive without delay

Your commitment ensures our residents remain safe, cared for, and comfortable—whatever the weather throws at us!

This week has been a special one across Milford Care ❤

At Buddleia House: Care Home, we've said a fond farewell to Home Manager Rachel, who is moving on to an exciting new chapter at our Alfreton-based care home, The Meadows:. Rachel has been a wonderful leader, bringing laughter, knowledge and warmth to Buddleia House. We're so grateful for everything she has given to the home and wish her every success in her new role. 🌸

We're also delighted to announce some fantastic internal promotions at Buddleia House:

✨ Alisha Hussain will be stepping up to the role of Home Manager. Since joining as Deputy Manager last year, Alisha has demonstrated an incredible passion for care, a positive energy, and a genuine commitment to both residents and staff.

✨ Mary Inger-Newton will take on the role of Deputy Manager. With her experience, enthusiasm and determination, we know she will be a great support to Alisha and the whole team.

✨ Tammy Jo Foster will become Care Leader. Tammy’s ambition and dedication, along with her ongoing NVQ 5 studies, make her a brilliant fit for this role.

We are so proud to see our talented colleagues grow within the Milford Care group. Congratulations to Alisha, Mary and Tammy on your new roles – and to Rachel as she begins her journey at The Meadows✨
