T.I.M.E. Are regulars with us at Godden Lodge. They are an Essex based charity, Together In Musical Expression - TIME.

Our residents really enjoy their visits and how interactive they are. Not only is it an enjoyable musical experience for our residents but a chance for firm friendships, across the Community units, to be formed during these afternoons.

Our famous musician/singer resident Peter, who had a song in the charts in 1975 called "One Way Street" still enjoys music and playing around on the organ in the lounge.

On this occasion he was joined by another resident who was also enjoying the musical session. These music sessions reconnect residents with their past.

For residents who are former musicians, playing the organ can restore a sense of identity, confidence and joy.

🩰 Turning Pages into Tu Tu’s 📰✨

At Godden Lodge we are always looking for creative ways to bring generations together — and this recent project has been truly special.

One of our residents, who was an experienced dressmaker in her younger years, inspired a wonderful idea to recycle the newspapers collected each morning from the local train station and transform them into something extraordinary.

Working alongside two talented fashion students from local SEEVIC College during their 5-week work experience placement, the project “Turning Pages into Tu Tu’s” was born — a fun play on words and an incredible creative challenge.

Using only newspapers, glue and staplers, the students, residents and team members worked together to create two stunning ballerina outfits. Residents loved getting involved, with Janet helping with measurements and everyone enjoying seeing the designs come to life week by week.

The finished mannequins now proudly stand on display within the home for residents, visitors and staff to admire 💙

A huge thank you to the students for their creativity, enthusiasm and hard work — and to everyone who helped make this fantastic intergenerational project such a success!

Engaging in creative activities exercises the brain, which can help with memory recall and improve concentration.

Painting can be very therapeutic and we always encourage our residents to let their imagination run free.

This was our 3rd visit from Purfleet Heritage and Military Centre. Our residents really enjoy their visit and talk about old memorabilia from their childhood era.

It's a very interactive session, being able to handle the items makes it more interesting. These kinds of activities allow residents to reconnect with their identity and engage with others in a safe, comfortable way.

Reminiscence activities exercise the brain helping to maintain existing cognitive abilities and stimulate long term memories that often remain intact even when short term memory fades.

Cheese and wine tasting in our home provides significant sensory stimulation, triggering long term memories and boosts social engagement.

This activity encourages communication, improves appetite and offers an enjoyable, interactive experience.

Our lovely resident Janet was in her element in our laundry room today. She was a huge help with sorting and folding up the towels and pillowcases.

Engaging in "work" helps residents feel useful and valued, reducing feelings of being a burden and fostering a sense of contribution to their environment. Laundry activities can spark memories of caring for family and raising children, often encouraging conversation and social interaction.

Our regular singer Charlie, recently visited Godden Lodge to our resident's delight.

Familiar melodies from a resident's youth, can trigger past memories of happy times and often encourage physical movement such as foot tapping, clapping or dancing.

This can also improve mood, alertness and even improved sleep quality.

We were delighted to welcome back our regular singer, Charlie, to Godden Lodge recently 🎶

Residents thoroughly enjoyed an afternoon filled with familiar songs, many of which brought back fond memories from years gone by. It was lovely to see so many smiles, with some residents tapping their feet, clapping along, and even having a little dance.

Music has such a powerful impact – it can lift mood, spark memories, increase alertness, and even support better sleep. Moments like these truly show the joy that music can bring to our home. 💛
