Everyone is talking about somatics. But not all somatic approaches are the same.
Somatics has become one of the biggest conversations in health, wellbeing and therapy. More practitioners are recognising that lasting change can’t happen through thinking alone. The body matters.
But how we work with the body matters too.
In Somatic Movement Dance Therapy (SMDT), we don’t begin by telling people how to move.
We begin by listening.
Through non-directed, improvisational movement, people begin to notice sensations, impulses, breath, emotion and movement arising from within. This develops interoception—our ability to sense and understand what’s happening inside our own body.
Why is this so important?
Because when we can sense ourselves more clearly, we begin to recognise what feels safe, what feels overwhelming, what we need, and what is asking for our attention. Rather than overriding the body’s wisdom, we learn to work with it.
This approach supports nervous system regulation, restores agency, and helps people develop trust in their own embodied intelligence.
For practitioners, these aren’t just valuable skills—they’re becoming essential. Whether you’re a therapist, counsellor, coach, yoga teacher, bodyworker, healthcare professional or simply fascinated by the body’s capacity to heal, understanding embodied practice can deepen the way you work with yourself and others.
Our Level 1 Foundation Training in Somatic Movement Dance Therapy begins in March 2027.
If you’ve been curious about somatics, this is an opportunity to experience a professional training that integrates science, creativity and spirituality—while placing relationship, agency and the wisdom of the body at its heart.
