Invites are being sent out for our flu clinic on 3rd October via text link to book over the next few days. Don't worry if you don't receive your invite today. By the end of the week all invites will have been sent to those with mobiles.

Please do NOT contact us by phone to book unless you cannot book online. We are happy to help the vulnerable who can't book online, but we are trying to save the phonelines for those that can't and other patients that need to access us for health issues.

Thank you.

Invites have been sent to all our patients with a history of gestational Diabetes today via text for the below NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme Humber and North Yorkshire.

Did you know?

Over 50% of patients with a history of Gestational Diabetes will develop Type 2 Diabetes.

Only 57% of women with a history of GDM will have an annual HbA1c blood test. ( We invite all our patients with a history yearly but many don't respond. 57% is the national average) . If we have invited you and you didn't respond/declined but have changed your mind please contact the surgery to book.

Recent Data published by Diabetes UK has shown diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes is rising twice as fast in women under the age of 40 compared to women over 40.

Patients can self-register online with our simple 5-step form: https://preventing-diabetes.co.uk/gestational-diabetes/

They hold regular online groups delivered via MS Teams exclusively for patients with a history of GDM.

The Manor Road Surgery page followers are only a small percentage of men.

We would like more men to be involved as things posted are important to them. Please get your partner/husband/brother/friend/dad to join us and follow our page.

Did you know 1 in 8 born male will be diagnosed with prostrate cancer in their lifetime?

If you are over 50, black, or your dad or brother had it you are at an even higher risk.
Signs and symptoms may include:
Difficulty or pain in passing urine
Dribbling urine
Having to rush to the toilet to pass urine
Starting and stopping whilst passing urine
Feeling of not having a fully empty bladder
There isn't a national screening programme currently in the NHS but the surgery have been asking specific age groups if they have a family history of prostate cancer recently and if they do have been offering a PSA test.

More information about having a PSA blood test if here:
https://www.nhs.uk/tests-and-treatments/psa-test/
There are pro's and cons to having the test as the results are not always accurate.

You can check your risk here:
https://prostatecanceruk.org/risk-checker
If you have any symptoms and are worried please contact the surgery

Not had a smear test?

You might be invited to order a kit and take a sample yourself.

An invitation-only offer will be for anyone with a cervix aged 30 to 65 years who has not attended cervical screening following previous routine invitations.

Invitations will be sent gradually as the service rolls out.

Invitations may be sent through the NHS App, text message (SMS), email or letter.

Once invited, people will be able to order a free self-testing kit through the NHS App, their NHS online account or via the order telephone line. The kit can be completed at home and returned using the pre-paid packaging.

The self-test checks for high-risk HPV. If high-risk HPV is not found, the next invitation will be in 5 years. If high-risk HPV is found, a follow-up clinician-taken cervical screening test will be needed.
