Learn how to protect your eyes whilst watching the partial solar eclipse!

We probably shouldn’t have to say this, but don’t look directly at the sun. Looking directly at the sun without the right protection can cause permanent damage to your eyesight – so you need to take care. Remember, your normal sunglasses may look great, but they won't cut it.

Follow the link to learn more about how to watch the eclipse safely!

Gluten free products are no longer available on prescription:

Changes to gluten free prescribing have been made by Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (HNY ICB) following a review of clinical policies and guidelines. Your health care professional has been asked to carry out these changes on behalf of the ICB and is not responsible for the decision that has been made.

The change is being made for the following reasons:

Health – Encouraging people to follow a diet that is naturally gluten free will have greater health benefits than supporting the use of highly processed substitute foods.

Equity - There is inequity in the current policies with differing criteria being used across HNY.

Access – access to gluten free foods has improved significantly in recent years

Cost – Gluten free prescribing costs the ICB circa 400k per annum. The total cost to the NHS of gluten free bread on prescription can be higher than the price of a similar GF product in local shops

In order to support people through this change, we have developed some resources that can help with healthy food choices, access to support groups and understanding which foods are naturally gluten free and these can be accessed at Gluten-free (GF) products - HNY Policy and Pathway Repository https://hnyppr.org.uk/w/gluten-free-products-policy

Please be assured that the decision to make this change follows a programme of engagement with patients, primary care colleagues and gastroenterologists. The report detailing the findings of the engagement work can be accessed at Commissioning Optimisation - Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) https://humberandnorthyorkshire.icb.nhs.uk/cop/

If, after reading the information provided in these links, you want to raise a concern, you can contact the ICB Experience Team at [email protected] or 01482 957750.

Important notice: Letter circulating in the local area

We've had several patients get in touch about a letter currently being delivered locally by York Delivery Pharmacy, offering free NHS prescription deliveries. We wanted to reassure everyone and clear up some confusion:

❌ This letter is NOT from Leven & Beeford Medical Practice
❌ This letter is NOT from the NHS
❌ It does NOT mean Beeford dispensary is closing

York Delivery Pharmacy is a distance-selling pharmacy based in York. If you fill in and post back the enclosed form, this will switch your prescription nomination away from OUR PRACTICE to them. That's entirely your choice to make, but it does mean:

📍 Your prescriptions will no longer come to us automatically
📍 You won't be able to collect ANY of your medication from Beeford dispensary unless you switch your nomination back
If you've already sent the form back and want to remain with us, or if you have any questions at all about this letter, please give us a call or pop in and speak to the team - we're always happy to help.

Thank you for bearing with us, and apologies for any confusion this has caused
