One of the biggest causes of heat exhaustion or heat stroke is putting the hood up in your pram and shading them with a blanket.

โ๏ธ As the temperature rises, itโs vital to spot early signs of heat-related illness โ in yourself and others.
๐ก Signs of heat illness can look different on different skin tones โ donโt rely on redness or flushing. Watch for changes in behaviour, energy, and breathing.

๐ฅต HEAT EXHAUSTION โ Look Out For:
โ
Pale, clammy or sweaty skin (may feel cool or damp rather than visibly pale)
โ
Headache, dizziness, or nausea
โ
Muscle cramps
โ
Fast breathing or heartbeat
โ
Extreme tiredness or weakness
๐ง๐พ Children may become floppy, sleepy or irritable

๐ง What to Do:
1. Move to a cool, shaded place
2. Lie them down and raise their feet slightly
3. Offer water or a rehydration drink
4. Cool their skin โ use a spray, sponge, or fan
5. Apply cold packs to the armpits or neck (wrapped in a cloth)
6. Stay with them โ they should feel better within 30 minutes
๐ข If they recover in 30 minutes, itโs usually not serious.

๐จ Call 999 โ Signs of HEATSTROKE:
โ No improvement after 30 minutes
โ Hot, dry, or red-feeling skin (even if not visibly red)
โ Confusion, seizures, or collapsing
โ Very high body temperature
โ Unconscious or unresponsive
โก๏ธ If unconscious, place in the recovery position while waiting for emergency help.

๐ก Stay Safe in the Heat โ For Everyone:
โ๏ธ Drink plenty of fluids
โ๏ธ Wear light, loose-fitting clothes that suit your comfort
โ๏ธ Avoid being outside during peak heat (11amโ3pm)
โ๏ธ Keep indoor spaces cool โ use curtains, fans or ventilation
โ๏ธ Check on neighbours, especially those living alone or at higher risk
