Interesting article, and an opportunity to ask everyone to support your local Funeral Directors. Reading the comments to this original post I wonder if people are really aware of what happens...
All of the Funeral Directors I have worked with offer a personalised, dignified, and professional service to both the deceased and their families. Services to say farewell are important- it's an opportunity to say goodbye, mark your loved one's passing, and start to grieve whilst being supported by friends and family, whether this is done in a religious building, crematorium, private function room or village hall.
If you are unsure what to do, please talk to your local Funeral Director who can guide you through your options. I am always available to chat too...

Such an amazing woman and pioneer, the book still has relevance today and I have used it throughout my 40 year nursing career, and continue to reference it in my celebrant career. Important to note that every person's journey through grief is as individual as they are, there are no rights and wrongs, and no timelines, and we are now fortunate to have many nationally recognised bereavement support services to individuals such as

Might you consider taking the mystery out of crematoriums by visiting Lelley Fields Crematorium on Saturday? It is a warm and welcoming place and the team are just wonderful...

πŸ‘‹ Who works at a crematorium?
When people think about a crematorium, they often think about the building.
What they don't always see is the team behind the service.
From welcoming families and supporting funeral directors, to caring for the grounds, maintaining memorial areas and ensuring each service runs smoothly, our staff work together to help create a respectful and dignified experience.
At our Open Day, you'll have the opportunity to meet members of the team, ask questions and discover more about the work that takes place throughout the year.
πŸ’› Every role contributes to helping families honour and remember those they love.

Just wondering.....
How would you like people to behave at your funeral or wedding πŸ€”
These major life events can be stressful times, and we all cope with this differently.
All families have disagreements from time to time, some significantly worse than others, but knowing that you all have to be in a room together for a funeral or wedding service- how would you expect people to behave?
All contributions gratefully received πŸ™

Today I had the honour of officiating a service at East Riding Crematorium, for a lady who had many challenges in her life.
Her wonderful family loved her and supported throughout, and continued their care by giving her a dignified and respectful farewell.
Sometimes my job is utterly humbling πŸ’ž
Thank you also to Co-op Funeralcare in Bridlington for their professionalism and dedication, today and at every service I have attended with them.

Yesterday I had the honour of officiating a funeral service for a much loved lady at the Chapel Room at Unsworth Funeral Directors in Bridlington.
The floral tributes were stunning, we were able to take a little more time over the service, and afterwards everyone had a tot of Baileys whilst the family toasted their mother/ grandmother/ sister/ friend. Unsworth Funeral Service were very accommodating, as always, as the service was live streamed on YouTube ( a first for me).
Thank you to this lovely family for allowing me to share picture of their flowers, and for giving me a floral tribute to take home as a thank you .

Thank you to Lelley Fields Crematorium for organising a superb seminar this week, aimed at individuals and companies working in the funeral industry.

There were some excellent speakers, knowledgeable panelist's, and an array of useful stands/ companies and ideas to support us to support our client group.

The networking opportunities were excellent and I particularly enjoyed learning more about Association of Independent Celebrants and Dove House Hospice.

The venue was excellent and amazing team at Lelley Fields went above and beyond, as they always do.

It was also a pleasure to connect with colleagues: Funeral Celebrant Sheenagh, Louise Mcphee, Kate Bowers, Hannah Rose Funeral Services

I did not know that April was stress awareness month...a poignant reminder for us all to slow down, take stock, and listen to our inner voice. Let's be as kind to ourselves as we are to others, and this event at Lelley Fields Crematorium promises to support us with doing just that πŸ’–

April is Stress Awareness Month. It’s observed across the UK every April to build understanding of what stress is, how it affects us, and practical ways to reduce it.

When someone dies, stress can show up as foggy thinking, poor sleep, tight timelines and unfamiliar decisions. If that’s you, please know it’s a natural response to loss and you don’t have to cope alone. Our team can slow things down, explain each step, and help you find a calmer pace.

πŸ—“ Save the date: Projecting Grief pop‑up, Saturday 25 April 2026, 11am–4pm, Lelley Fields - a gentle space to reflect, view a photography exhibition about creativity and loss, and try a supportive journalling workshop. Free event β€” donations welcome.
