Here you will be able to find out more about the work that we do, our weekly lottery scheme, our annual membership subscription and more!! We look forward to seeing you there, 11am-3pm.

A visit from the Mayor, an offer to play in the League-funded Arts in Healthcare live music series in the Irvine Unit, a new membership application, donations – plus our volunteers didn’t get wet.

Committee members Malcolm Tysoe, Helen Downton and President John Dowling, assisted by Helen’s Husband, Chris, were involved in setting up and manning the Friends’ stall.

From the outset, there was an encouraging amount of interest from passers by among the crowd. This was heartening for the whole point of the team’s efforts is to raise the Friends’ public profile. In striking contrast to participation in other events this year, this time the team neither roasted in heatwave conditions nor fought a battle with high winds!!

All in all, the Friends’s participation in the annual Bexhill 100 Motor Show at the Polegrove was a success.

In 2021, thanks to the incredible support of local organisations and individuals, The Friends of Conquest Hospital and The League of Friends of the Bexhill Hospital CIO funded two state-of-the-art MRI scanners for the then new MRI Unit at Conquest Hospital.

The scanners have transformed local healthcare, allowing many specialist scans, including Cardiac MRI, to be carried out closer to home rather than requiring travel to London.

Demand for MRI scans continues to grow, with inpatient scans increasing from 3,516 in 2024 to 4,782 in 2025, and prostate examinations rising from 1,601 to 2,245 in the same period.

Consultant Radiologist Mr Mohamad Faris said: "I cannot state clearly enough how invaluable the contribution has been. We now have state-of-the-art MRI scanners that provide excellent imaging for conditions ranging from joint and back pain to cancer diagnoses, improving access for our local population."

The League of Friends of Bexhill Hospital are funding the £92,700 cost of purchasing a vital piece of sight-saving equipment.

The Cirrus OCT 6000 Optical Coherence Tomography scanner will increase the working capacity of the hospital’s ‘Dowling Retinal Suite’ by 10%, possibly pushing it beyond 12,000 appointments a year.

The League has consistently funded equipment for the unit since its inception. The unit’s principal role is in combatting age-related dry macular degeneration – the largest cause of sight loss in the western world.
