Are your anxious thoughts always facts?

Anxiety can make our negative and self-critical thoughts feel very convincing.

When these thoughts appear, try asking:
💭 What is the evidence for this thought?
💭 What is the evidence against it?
💭 What would I say to a friend in this situation?

The goal isn’t to think positively all the time, but rather to think realistically, based on facts and evidence.

Why is couple communication so important?

Most relationship difficulties aren’t because people don’t care. They’re because people don’t feel heard, understood or valued.

Healthy communication involves:
• expressing your needs
• listening with curiosity
• talking about feelings
• repairing after conflict

Why does anxiety feel so physical?

💓 Racing heart
🫁 Fast breathing
😰 Tight chest
🌪️ Dizziness
🫨 Shaking
🔥 Feeling hot or sweaty

Anxiety isn’t just in your mind - it affects the whole body. This happens because your nervous system is preparing you to deal with danger.

The confusing part is that your body can respond to a scary thought in the same way it responds to a real threat. These sensations might feel frightening or unpleasant, but they're just your body trying to keep you safe.

Self-care isn't just candle-lit bubble baths! Real self-care is about noticing what you need and making space for it.

It can look like:
✨ Resting
✨ Saying no
✨ Asking for help
✨ Moving your body
✨ Spending time with people who support you

Looking after yourself isn’t selfish. It helps you have more energy for the people and things that matter to you.

Feeling overwhelmed? Try square breathing.

Square breathing is a simple technique that can help calm your nervous system.

Imagine drawing a square with your breath:
🌿 Breathe in for 4 seconds
🌿 Hold for 4 seconds
🌿 Breathe out for 4 seconds
🌿 Hold for 4 seconds

Repeat a few times. The aim is to send your body the message: "Right now, I'm safe."

What does emotional regulation actually mean?

Emotional regulation doesn’t mean never getting upset. It doesn’t mean always feeling calm. And it definitely doesn’t mean pushing difficult emotions away.

It means learning how to notice what you’re feeling, understand what’s happening, and choose how you respond.

Why do we feel anxious?

Anxiety is your brain’s built-in alarm system. Its job is to keep you safe by noticing possible dangers and preparing you to respond.

The tricky thing is that sometimes the alarm goes off when there isn’t a real threat.
Your brain might react to:
• a worrying thought
• uncertainty
• a difficult conversation
• a future ‘what if?’
as though you’re in danger right now.

Anxiety isn’t your enemy. It’s your brain trying hard to protect you.

The heatwave is a reminder that self-care is all about the small, simple, unglamorous things we do to protect ourselves and our wellbeing. It’s not just candlelit baths and spa days!

Today, self-care might be:
💧 Drinking plenty of water
🌬️ Taking things more slowly
🧢 Wearing a hat
❌ Saying no to energy-draining activities
😴 Having a nap

You don’t have to push through the heat to prove anything. Looking after yourself is productive too 😎
