One of the main reasons I became a Helper was my passion for supporting older people. I cared for both my mum and dad during the later years of their lives, when they became seriously ill. Dad was diagnosed with dementia, while Mum was diagnosed with terminal cancer. ( photo of mum & dad at their Golden Wedding Anniversary, a year before they became ill) 💛
Suddenly finding myself in a caring role while working full-time and raising two young daughters was incredibly tough. Looking back, I know how much easier things could have been if I’d had someone like a Good Life Sorted Helper to provide some extra support.
At the time, unfortunately, there was no service like Good Life Sorted. We had carers visiting, but they were often rushing in and out to get to their next client. There was little time for the things that mattered so much, a proper chat, a cup of tea, or simply someone who was willing to listen.
Caring for my parents was one of the toughest, loneliest and most challenging experiences of my life. I did the very best I could for Mum and Dad, and those experiences have stayed with me.
That’s why I’m so passionate about what I do today. I understand how overwhelming it can be for families who suddenly find themselves in a caring situation, and I want to provide the kind of support I would have valued so much myself.
If you’re caring for a family member & would like some support from one of our wondering Helpers, do get in touch.
