When your contribution has a financial value attached to it, it’s easy to see it as the *bigger* contribution.
You work. You earn. You pay the mortgage, bills or holidays. It’s visible, measurable and important.
But problems begin when financial provision becomes the only form of work that counts.
The mental load, emotional labour, organising, remembering, anticipating and quietly keeping life moving may have no financial value attached to them — but they still have value.
Sometimes this pattern comes from what we learned growing up:
Providing = love.
Providing = responsibility.
Providing = being a good partner.
And perhaps nobody ever taught you to notice everything else.
The shift isn't about diminishing what you provide.
It's about recognising that money is one form of contribution — not the only one.
💜 Two people can both be working incredibly hard in completely different ways.
