Team Blizard Race Report
The action continues thick and fast from the Team Blizard running community as once again we “try” to round up some of the action seen over the last 7 days.
Kicking off the week on Tuesday we saw the next round of the Canal Series 5k where a man in form Richard Burke once again ran a fine race in this popular event that seems to be growing.
A new friend to many of you who went on our Portugal warm weather trip Artūrs Silgals once again turned a successful training camp into another podium position as he took 2nd place over all in a 10k race over in Latvia.
The Swansea half marathon held host to the latest round of the England Masters representative matches and there were great runs from both Wayne Singleton and Rob Watkinson both who are regulars at the clinic and in the training group on excellent performances in their International colours.
Further South the community was represented by Alex Mackula in the Weybridge 5k where he took the V40 win and 3rd place overall in a swift time as we build towards some 10k targets later in the year.
Staying with the same distance of 5k on Saturday afternoon saw the first running of the Podium 5k over in York which was a fantastic event and a great spectators event as well which is so important in our sport.
We had a great show of runners from within the team running and excellent new personal bests came from Shaun Paul Yates, Olly Sizer, Ward , Will Sykes, Nick Williams “Redcar” and these were backed up from excellent performances from both Rebecca Friar and Aaron Lowery to name just a few of the team that ran.
The final race to report from was the ever popular and super fast Grimsby 10k that also doubled as the England Masters qualifying race.
There really were far too many fantastic performances to name every single one individually but we have tried to name a handful of the standout ones that caught our eye.
The first one to mention was from a former training partner to many of you who it was great to see back racing again in Nicola Devine who ran an excellent 4th overall in the ladies race and we hope to see her back down around the airport soon!
Cleethorpes runners Danny James, Spencer Higgins, Michael Skelton and Dean Thomas were just a few of the excellent runs seen from the local club who are regulars in the team/training camps.
There were big new personal bests from Jack Yaqoob fresh from his marathon only a couple of weeks ago and another couple of coached athletes in Clare Steele and Wajeed Chowdhury.
Another eye catching run came from Retford Ac athlete and placing 2nd in the V75 for Simon Lord should have been enough to secure his first England Masters vest!
However, as you know each week we like to pick what we believe is the standout performance of the week and give that person the title of “Run of the Week” and this week it goes to Sheffield coached athlete Kevin Walker who secured his next England Master vest and taking the overall V50 win in a very fast time of 34.40mins.
A massive well done to everyone who raced and thank you to all who kindly sent their race results in as it really helps.
Until next week……….keep training!

Team Blizard Race Report
Once again we have a high quality report for you this week from the Team Blizard running community.
Over a variety of distances and surfaces the common factor is excellence so well done to everyone who raced.
We kick off this week’s report with a brand new personal best from recent te**ee
Clare Steele who ran in the mid week Lincoln 5k series to record her lifetime pb.
She was again in action come Saturday in the off road Bakewell trail race so has been a busy lady!
Staying with the offroad theme Sunday’s Gerald Storey race was the setting for so many of you and it would be impossible to mention everyone so well done to all those who raced!
The televised Manchester 10k and half marathon took place on Sunday morning and there were two notable performances from a couple of coached athletes.
Will Skyes ran a lifetime new personal best as a “training run” while Colin Storrar used the race as preparation for his upcoming triathlon in Nice by biking 56 miles the day before tackling the half marathon!
Friday saw the latest round of the North Derbyshire NWITP 5k series and it was good to see so many excellent results from this ever popular event.
Matt Taylor fresh from his holiday used it as a bit of speed leading into this weekend’s Grimsby 10k while Bev Warwick took the V65 ladies victory.
However, each week we choose an athlete who we believe has achieved the performance of the week and award the “Run of the Week” to and this week it goes to a popular member of the community and coached athlete Seth Kirby who finished 3rd place overall in an impressive time to take this week’s RotW!
Massive well done to all who raced and thank you to those who sent in their results. It really helps us.
Big week of racing ahead and until next week…..keep training!

Blizard Session in Cantley Park this morning.

Good to use trails to reduce need for paces and work on perceived effort and heart rate zones instead.

Hills to work on running form 🏃🏻‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏃

All welcome who want to improve. Join our Blizard Virtual Training Group fb page to find out where we are each week.

Team Blizard Race Report

The performances out on the roads have matched this Bank Holiday weather….red hot!
Once again we celebrate the round up of a snapshot of some of the results from our running community over the last 7 days over a variety of distances and locations.
Wednesday evening as a busy one with the ever popular Rother Valley relays that seems to be growing year on year and so many of you were running it would be impossible to list everyone but a special mention needs to go to firstly the North Derbyshire ladies V60 team who smashed it and also coached athlete Kev Walker fresh from his 1st England Master’s vest as he recorded the fastest V50 time overall just to name a couple performances that caught our eye but a massive well done to everyone who raced.
Askern running club has a fine tradition over several years of putting quality events on but due to growing restriction these races like many others have dropped out of the local calendar.
Therefore, it was excellent to see and support Jody Murray and his team for putting on the first running of the Bentley 5 mile road race.
Not only did they deliver an excellent event but the feedback was fantastic from all those who took part with everyone saying they would return.
Once again there was so many of the team competing it would be impossible to name everyone but a big shoutout to Joe Restell taking the overall win in this inaugural event.
Friday night was the next action to report from as several of you “attempted” to make the trip over the Pennies to the super fast Mid Cheshire 5k.
A few of you never even made it due to horrendousBank Holiday traffic but those who did manage to get there all had fine runs with a brand new pb for that man in form and coached athlete Shaun Yates, great run from Sarah Hunter in her first race since her London marathon and fine performances from both Becky Friar and Alice Fearn to name just a few.
Moving up in distance to the half marathon we saw North Derbyshire athlete Wayne Church tackle the very hilly Buxton event while Freddie Fearn placed an excellent 6th place overall in the Edinburgh half marathon.
Moving up to the full marathon starting once again in Edinburgh there was a solid run in very hot conditions from long time supporter of the clinic Mark Rodgers while recent lactate test athlete Jack Yaqoob broke that magical 3hrs barrier wearing the colours of Rotherham Running club.
A little further afield, long time coached athlete Keri Pearson had a fine run in the Cape Town marathon that boasts a field of over 27,000 runners in South Africa.

However, each week we give the title of “Run of the Week” and we have chosen an athlete who ran in the Bentley 5 mile road race.
Sarah Lowery first came to the clinic back in 2014 initially wanting to just break 3.00hrs for the marathon which she easily did and then progressed each year and taking overall marathon wins at both the Yorkshire and Chester marathon ( England representative event ) under the coaching of Dave.
It is fair to say that some of the time achieved previously may not be possible anymore but her consistent approach to her training and racing over the years resulted in an overall win in the said event and we were delighted for her.
Massive well done to everyone who raced and until next week…..keep training!

Team Blizard Race Report

With many of the team recovering from running recent marathons you might think the race report would be slightly diluted but no chance as the excellence keeps marching on over a variety of distances!
The week kicked off on Tuesday evening over in East Park, Hull where it was the next round of the East Hull road league.
There were fine runs from coached athletes Olly Sizer , John Pogornyi and Jack Potter fresh from his excellent recent marathon.
Saturday saw the first round of the Northern track league events take place with Seth Kirby and Lee Davies both competing on the track at Doncaster.
Another race that took place on Saturday was the Quayside Sunderland 5k road race where coached athlete Nick “Redcar” Williams showed he is a man in form as he came away with another personal best time.
There were fine runs from the “Posh and Becks” of the local running scene as Danny James took the overall win in the White Rose half marathon trail race with fellow Portugal attendee Lucy also running really well.
Fresh from her workout on the Blizard Run Club live class Vivviane Fraser ran the Grim Up North canal Ultra marathon that takes some doing post kettlebells!
Super Sunday was all about 10k road races and the Blizard community was well represented with races all over the area.
Friday night regular attendee Anna Thompson made a winning return to racing taking the 1st place in the Deeping 10k.
A little nearer home we saw the excellently organized Big Green 10k in Scunthorpe with so many of the team running there are too many to mention but a big shout out to both Clare Steele and Vikki Wilson as both smashed their 10k pbs!
North Derbyshire Chesterfield saw a record field race on the undulating course and big shout outs to Mark Trolley, Ann Barker and Bev Warwick who all either pb’d or took age group wins to name just a few of the many of you who ran.
The Pontefract 10k is quickly establishing itself as a popular race locally and again there was so many of you running it is impossible to mention everyone but a few of the eye catching runs came from Susie Hinchcliffe and Richard Burke both gain podium positions in their age group and Wayne Singleton placing an excellent 3rd place overall.
However, each week we like to choose a performance that we hand the “Run of the Week” to and this week it goes to coached athlete Shaun Yates who ran a new personal best placing 5th place overall but more importantly taking a huge 8 minutes off his initial personal best when he first came for a test only a short while ago.
Massive well done to everyone who raced and many thanks to all those who took time to send in their results as it really does help us.
Let’s keep this success going and until next week………keep training!
