💜 Celebrating One Year of Independence and Happiness 💜

This month, Nik and John are celebrating their one-year anniversary at Kingsland Road, marking an important milestone in their journey together. 🎉

Before moving to Kingsland Road, Nik and John were unsure whether their dream of living together would ever become a reality. Today, one year on, they are happier than ever and continue to build a life together with increasing independence and confidence.

Reflecting on their journey, John said:

"Before Kingsland, we had no hope that our dream of living together would come true. Now, a year on, we are happier than ever, learning how to live together as independently as possible with the help of the support staff. We can't thank them enough."

Over the past year, Nik and John have developed their independent living skills, supported one another, and created a home where they can thrive together. Their story highlights the positive impact of person-centred support in helping people achieve the goals that matter most to them.

Seeing Nik and John grow in confidence, strengthen their independence, and enjoy life together has been a wonderful achievement for everyone involved.

Congratulations on your first anniversary at Kingsland Road, Nik and John. Here's to many more happy years ahead! 🎊🏡💜

🍇🌟 Building Skills, Confidence and Community Connections 🌟🍏

The people we support at Paxton House have been making the most of the summer by exploring their local community and discovering some fantastic blackberry-picking spots! 😊

Over the past week, Brandon, Gareth, Lydia and Chloe have enjoyed getting out and about, collecting fresh blackberries and learning more about where food comes from. The berries were enjoyed as healthy snacks and used to create a delicious homemade blackberry and apple crumble. 🫐🥧

Everyone got involved in the baking process, developing valuable independent living skills such as food preparation, following instructions, teamwork and kitchen safety. The activity also provided opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, engage with the local community, and build confidence through shared experiences.

The best part? Sitting down together to enjoy the blackberry and apple crumble they had helped to create. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their homemade dessert and felt proud of their contribution to the finished result. 💜

This is a wonderful example of how everyday activities can support learning, independence, wellbeing and community engagement, all while having lots of fun along the way.

Well done to everyone involved! 🍇✨

🌟 Overcoming Barriers and Rediscovering Opportunities 🌟

What a fantastic achievement for Steven from Heath Lodge! 😊

Steven enjoyed a brilliant day out at Chester Zoo, marking an important milestone in his journey towards rebuilding confidence and reconnecting with activities he enjoys.

Since suffering a fall in October 2024 that resulted in a broken ankle and ongoing mobility difficulties, Steven has often found it difficult to engage in outings and activities. One of the biggest challenges has been using a wheelchair, something that had previously prevented him from attending community events and spending time outside the home.

However, with encouragement and support from staff, Steven made the positive decision to use a wheelchair so that he could take part in the zoo visit alongside his friends and support team. This determination allowed him to fully enjoy the experience, exploring the exhibits, taking photographs, and sharing the day with those around him. 📸🦧

The orangutans were a particular highlight, and Steven loved spending time watching them and learning more about the animals. Throughout the day, it was wonderful to see him become increasingly relaxed, engaged, and confident. His smiles, conversations, and enjoyment of the experience showed just how much the day meant to him.

The outing was a huge success and demonstrated how the right support, encouragement, and determination can help overcome barriers, increase confidence, and create meaningful opportunities for community participation and social connection.

We would also like to give special recognition to Support Worker Ann Houghton. Ann's dedication, patience, and commitment played a vital role in making this day possible. As Steven became increasingly reluctant to leave the house, Ann worked tirelessly to build trust, provide reassurance, and support him at a pace that felt safe and comfortable. Her hard work helped Steven feel confident enough to take on this adventure and achieve something truly significant.

Well done, Steven. We are incredibly proud of everything you have achieved and look forward to many more adventures ahead. ⭐💚

Gwyliau Cyntaf Rhys mewn Dros 10 Mlynedd – Cyflawniad Arbennig Iawn
Eleni, cyflawnodd Rhys un o’i ganlyniadau personol mwyaf ystyrlon hyd yma – mynd ar ei wyliau cyntaf mewn dros 10 mlynedd.
Gan wybod cymaint mae Rhys yn caru carafanau ac yn cofio’r atgofion hyfryd a rannodd gyda’i fam ar wyliau pan oedd yn blentyn, trefnodd Caitlin, aelod o’r tîm cefnogi, daith syrpreis arbennig iddo. Dewiswyd Golden Sands yn y Rhyl yn ofalus gan ei bod yn ddigon agos i’w gartref i roi ymdeimlad o sicrwydd a chyfarwyddyd iddo, tra hefyd yn caniatáu i’w deulu ymweld a threulio amser gwerthfawr gydag ef.
Pan gafodd Rhys wybod am y syrpreis y bore hwnnw, roedd ei ymateb yn amhrisiadwy. Goleuodd ei wên yr ystafell gyfan, ac roedd ei gyffro a’i lawenydd yn amlwg i bawb o’i gwmpas. Roedd hon yn llawer mwy na gwyliau – roedd yn gyfle i ailgysylltu ag atgofion hapus, profi pethau newydd, a mwynhau rhywbeth nad oedd wedi’i wneud ers blynyddoedd lawer.
Yn ystod ei arhosiad, mwynhaodd Rhys bob eiliad. Ymlaciodd yn y twb poeth gyda’i chwaer a’r staff, aeth am droeon hamddenol, ymwelodd â’r adloniannau lleol, a threuliodd amser heddychlon yn y garafán yr oedd yn ei charu gymaint.
Mae’r stori hon yn enghraifft ragorol o gymryd risgiau cadarnhaol a chefnogaeth sy’n canolbwyntio ar yr unigolyn. Trwy gynllunio gofalus, hyder, a chred yng nghryfderau Rhys, llwyddodd i gyflawni rhywbeth a oedd yn golygu’r byd iddo. Mae’n dangos beth sy’n bosibl pan fo pobl yn cael eu cefnogi i ddilyn eu breuddwydion a chyflawni’r pethau sydd wir yn bwysig iddynt.
Yn bwysicaf oll, daeth Rhys adref gyda mwy na lluniau a straeon i’w rhannu. Daeth adref gyda hyder newydd, ymdeimlad o gyflawniad, ac atgofion gwerthfawr a fydd yn para am flynyddoedd. Roedd y daith hon yn brawf nad yw byth yn rhy hwyr i greu profiadau newydd a byw bywyd llawn o lawenydd.
Gobeithiwn mai dyma’r cyntaf o lawer o anturiaethau newydd i Rhys, gan greu mwy o atgofion arbennig a mwy o gyfleoedd i fyw’r bywyd y mae’n ei ddewis ac yn ei haeddu.

A Life-Changing Holiday and a Memory Rekindled
This year, Rhys achieved one of his most significant personal outcomes yet – going on his first holiday in over ten years.
Knowing how much Rhys loves caravans and remembering the happy holidays he enjoyed with his mum as a child, support worker Caitlin secretly planned a surprise trip for him to Golden Sands in Rhyl. The location was chosen carefully; it was close enough to home to feel safe and familiar while also allowing Rhys's family to visit and share part of this special experience with him.
When Rhys was told about the surprise on the morning of the trip, his reaction was unforgettable. His face lit up with the biggest smile, and his excitement filled the room. It was clear that this was much more than a holiday—it was the opportunity to reconnect with cherished memories, experience new adventures, and enjoy something he had not had the chance to do for many years.
During his stay, Rhys embraced every moment. He relaxed in the hot tub with staff and his sister, enjoyed walks by the coast, visited local amusements, and spent time simply unwinding in the caravan—something that brought him immense comfort and happiness.
This was positive risk-taking at its very best. With careful planning, encouragement, and person-centred support, Rhys was able to achieve something many might take for granted but which represented a huge milestone in his life. The trip demonstrated how meaningful outcomes can be achieved when people are supported to pursue what truly matters to them.
Most importantly, Rhys returned home with treasured memories, renewed confidence, and a sense of achievement. His holiday was not just a few days away—it was a reminder that dreams and aspirations do not have an expiry date. Hopefully, this is the first of many adventures to come, creating even more opportunities for Rhys to enjoy life, build memories with those he loves, and continue achieving the outcomes that matter most to him.

🌟 Overcoming Anxiety and Embracing New Experiences 🌟

A huge well done to Eva from Paxton House, who recently achieved something she should be incredibly proud of. 💜

Eva can sometimes find the outside world overwhelming and often feels most comfortable at home. With support from staff members Helen and Melissa, she attended a music festival at Elvaston Castle; an experience that involved overcoming several significant challenges.

Although Eva was initially unsure about attending, staff provided reassurance, encouragement, and the time she needed to feel comfortable. Step by step, Eva overcame her anxieties, from leaving the house and travelling in the car to entering the busy festival environment.

Once settled, Eva's confidence began to shine. As someone who loves music, she immersed herself in the event, enjoying the atmosphere and even surprising staff by spontaneously getting up to dance and pulling them onto the dance floor with her! 🎶💃

Despite the crowds and noise, Eva managed the environment incredibly well, enjoying the live music and taking in everything going on around her. The day demonstrated just how much can be achieved with the right support, patience, and encouragement.

This was a significant achievement for Eva, helping to build her confidence, resilience, and independence while enabling her to enjoy an activity she loves within her local community.

We're all incredibly proud of you, Eva. Well done! ⭐

🌟 Building Connections, Confidence and Lasting Memories 🌟

Jamie from Walker Heights recently enjoyed a fantastic day at Chester Zoo with support worker Carl, creating meaningful experiences and opportunities to do something he loves. 🦁🐘

Thanks to the generous gift of a yearly zoo pass from his sister, Jamie now has the freedom to visit throughout the year, supporting greater choice, independence and access to activities that bring him joy. 💚

During the visit, Jamie explored the zoo, spent time seeing his favourite animals, and captured some brilliant photographs along the way. 📸 The day provided opportunities for community engagement, enjoyment, and the creation of positive memories, all contributing to his wellbeing and quality of life.

We're delighted that Jamie can continue enjoying future zoo adventures and all the benefits they bring. 😊✨

At Queens Court, our weekly Welsh workshops are now well underway, and what an incredible journey they have been! 🏴💚

Each one-hour session held in the Hub is bringing people together through language, laughter, music, creativity, games and everyday Welsh phrases. It's been wonderful to hear fluent Welsh speakers tell us how the sessions take them back to their hometowns, bringing back cherished memories and a real sense of belonging.

These workshops are about so much more than learning a language. They are about empowering others, creating purpose, building confidence, celebrating culture, and strengthening our community. The happiness and enthusiasm shared by everyone involved has been truly inspiring.

Today's session was all about the traditional Welsh Lady. Everyone had the opportunity to design and create their own, and the smiles, laughter and creativity on display were simply amazing.

One of our proudest moments has been seeing a person we support, whose first language is Welsh and who rarely engages in group activities, attend the sessions. They have embraced every moment, and watching the joy and happiness these workshops have brought them has been incredibly special for everyone at Queens Court.

The workshops were the idea of our Deputy Manager, Kay, who wanted to create a space where people could reconnect with their Welsh heritage, celebrate their identity, and inspire others to learn the language. Kay is truly honoured and incredibly proud to see her idea flourish into something that has been embraced so wholeheartedly by both the people we support and our staff team. Seeing the positive impact these sessions are having each week has made it all worthwhile.

Now, wherever you walk around Queens Court, the corridors are filled with cheerful greetings of "Bore da!", "Prynhawn da!" and "Sut ydych chi?" Staff and the people we support have truly taken these workshops to another level, and we couldn't be prouder.

"Mae pob iaith yn adrodd stori, ac mae pob stori'n haeddu cael ei chlywed." ❤️🏴
Every language tells a story, and every story deserves to be heard.
