What a busy month it has been at Miriam Primary Care Group! 🗓️✨
As July comes to an end, let's look back at the important topics we’ve covered:
• We celebrated Disability Pride Month and championing equal access.
• We learned the signs of Sarcoma and Group B Strep.
• We focused on physical & mental health during Alcohol Awareness Week.
• We shared vital safety tips for World Drowning Prevention Day & World Hepatitis Day.
• We kept safe and cool with summer heat, sun, and hayfever advice.
Thank you to all our patients for engaging with our posts. Stay safe, stay healthy, and we look forward to supporting you through August! ☀️👋

🌍 Help Us Reduce Medicine Waste! 🌍
At Miriam Primary Care Group, we are committed to looking after both our patients and our NHS resources. Did you know that unused prescription medicines cost the NHS millions of pounds every single year?
To help tackle this, we are sharing three important guides today to highlight how we can all make a big difference
Join us in making a positive change today. If you have any unused medicines at home, please return them to your local pharmacy for safe disposal.

Did you know that hot weather and high pollen can be a dangerous combination if you have Asthma?
Pollen can trigger asthma symptoms, leading to a life-threatening asthma attack.
If you have asthma, keep safe by:
• Carrying your reliever inhaler (usually blue) with you at all times.
• Taking your preventer inhaler daily as prescribed.
• Managing your hayfever symptoms with antihistamines.
• Checking the weather and pollen forecast daily.
If your asthma is playing up, please book an appointment with our asthma clinic nurses.

As Disability Pride Month comes to a close, we reaffirm our pledge to provide accessible healthcare at our practices.
Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and to have equal access to medical treatment. We continue to ensure our staff receive training in disability awareness, neurodiversity, and deaf/blind communication.
Thank you to our patients who share their lived experiences with us to help improve our services!

As part of Disability Pride Month, we are celebrating neurodiversity! 🧠
Neurodiversity includes conditions such as Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, and Dyspraxia. At Miriam Primary Care Group, we understand that visiting the doctor can be overwhelming due to sensory overload, changes in routine, or communication barriers.
If you or your child are neurodivergent and require adjustments—such as a quieter waiting area—please let us know when booking. We want to make your experience as comfortable as possible.

Babies and young children are much more sensitive to the heat and sun than adults.
👶 Under 6 Months: Should be kept out of direct strong sunlight altogether.
☀️ Sunscreen: Apply SPF 50 sunscreen to your child’s skin, even on cloudy days.
🧢 Hats & Sunglasses: Protect their eyes and delicate scalps with wide-brimmed hats and UV-protection sunglasses.
🚗 Cars: Never leave children (or pets) in a parked car, even for a moment.
Keep them cool and hydrated with water or breast/formula milk.

Sarcoma is often referred to as a "lonely cancer" because it is rare and many people have never heard of it.
There are about 100 different sub-types of sarcoma, falling into two main areas:
1. Soft Tissue Sarcoma (affecting muscles, fat, blood vessels)
2. Bone Sarcoma (affecting the bones)
Sarcoma UK has a mission to increase early diagnosis. If you have any worries about a lump that is rapidly growing or deep bone pain, don't wait. Make an appointment with one of our GPs today.
