Ahh a much needed weekend away 🎪 🌞
A rare occurrence for me staying in a tent ⛺️, which I normally don’t enjoy and prefer to sleep in my little van. But I had the best night sleep - with my little vole visitor 🐭
Thank you Green & Away for the invite and putting me up, I had a lovely time and thoroughly enjoyed running the herb walk and herbal tea making session 🌱 🫖.
Anyway home to carnage, as I’m having electrics rewired at home, and it’s not going smoothly - feel like packing my rucksack to run off back to the country 😂

See how happy getting a roof on the shed makes us 😂

Finally in the 30degree heat we got the roofing panels on 💪💪💪💪💪

Guttering will take place next to collect the rainwater from the shed roof. We are trying to be as environmentally friendly as possible with the project, hopefully harvesting all the water we will need on site rather than using the standpipe 🤞

I always think my allotment looks stunning at this time of year, completely overgrown, and very difficult to get in to harvest - and to be honest I never want to harvest the herbs I grow - I’m a bit attached to them 😂

Anyway there’s the photogenic part of the allotment, - the other over grown half slightly more manic where the mugwort has taken over 💚🌞

Preparing for the new wave of heat that’s heading our way. 🌞🥵
Yesterday’s herbal workshop was all about herbs which help keep us cool, as well as remedies for calming and soothing hot, inflamed itchy skin.
As always there was a lovely group who attended the session at the gorgeous The Fold , making it the perfect way to spend the day 🌞💚🌸

Im really pleased to be taking part in this event tomorrow - I will be taking part in the camp fire session - however due to current heatwave there will be no campfire !! 🥵

But this heatwave - where Birmingham along with many parts of England have been on Red heat alert - really highlights why festivals like this are so important. We can come together and make a difference in our communities 💪

Yarrow - Achillea millefolium - flowering at the community allotment on Midsummer 🌞

And I think I say this every time I post the dates for the following month - but - how has the month flown by so quickly?

So here they are, the July dates - please notice we aren’t there the first Saturday as I’m off running a herbal medicine workshop in Worcestershire, but we’ll be there as usual for the following Saturdays.

Great Big Green Week 2026

This years theme was Together For Good -
And that’s exactly what this weekend at the allotment was all about. Along with us regulars we had visitors from community gardens in Banbury, and herbalists from Stoke, Sutton and Leamington Spa coming together to make an impact.

We managed to completely clear an old pond area which we uncovered earlier in the year in prep for the new pond which we are creating. The new pond will include plants to attract pollinators and create safe spaces for wildlife around the edges. The new pond will also have sloped edges to create escape routes for amphibians.

That is market season almost done for me until the autumn 🙀

I have one more market left this summer - Kings Heath - looking forwards to it🌞
This will be the last opportunity to buy my teas until I’m back at The Fold in September, so if you need your tea fix come see me next week 🌱

May was rather full on and time flew by, but there was some lovely days out and about - including my first visit to The National Herb Centre, Banbury.

I managed to stay quite composed and only return with one box full of herbs 🌱🌱🌱
