Last week I escaped to the gorgeous Coughton Court – a Tudor house and gardens with centuries of stories woven through its walls and grounds. It felt like the perfect place to talk about women’s health, midlife transitions and finding spaces that support real, honest conversations.

I met some incredible people with so many different strengths, all united by a desire to make a difference. As a GP and menopause specialist running Pause and Co Healthcare, I spend a lot of time helping women feel heard, yet I still find networking hard despite my outwardly extroverted nature. There was something about being outdoors, surrounded by beauty, that made connecting feel more natural, more authentic – and a reminder that we don’t have to chase “perfect networking”, just real human moments.

Something that has been bothering me since I woke up this morning and I don't normally post controversial information.

Raise the Colours keeps calling itself “just patriotic”, yet its mass flag‑dropping has been condemned by councils and communities as intimidating and divisive, especially towards migrants and minorities. I have felt intimated my entire life growing up as a South East Asian female when my parents had eggs thrown at their lounge window whilst we sat and watched TV or called "p*** scum"

Last night, some of the same people backing the movement were roaring for a young Black man from Birmingham as he scored twice for England.
If you can celebrate Black talent on the pitch but support campaigns that make Black and Brown neighbours feel unwelcome off it, that’s not pride – that’s hypocrisy.

I’m incredibly proud to share that Pause and Co Healthcare has been named Menopause Specialists of the Year 2026 – Birmingham at the Global Excellence Awards—for the third year in a row!!!

This journey hasn’t been easy. The past couple of years have brought challenges, both personally and in business, and there have been moments that truly tested me over and over again. But through it all, resilience has been everything. Showing up, staying committed, and continuing to support the women who trust me has meant so much.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey—your support, trust, and encouragement mean more than you know.

Waking up drenched in sweat and desperate for a cool breeze?

While the UK just endured a few uncomfortable "tropical nights," this is the daily, exhausting reality for millions of menopausal women. A "hot flush" isn’t just feeling a bit warm—it’s a sudden, intense wave of heat, a pounding heart, and a drenched-in-sweat reality that completely derails sleep, focus, and confidence.

The Science

It all starts in the brain. Dropping estrogen levels throw off the hypothalamus (our internal thermostat) and the pituitary gland. This narrows the body's comfort zone, meaning minor triggers—like a warm room or a stressful meeting—instantly kick off a dramatic cooling response.

The Reality at Work

While the rest of us complain about a brief heatwave, women silently navigate this in boardrooms, classrooms, and clinics. Menopause isn't a punchline; it’s a workplace wellbeing and inclusion priority.

Simple, practical steps from organizations can make a massive difference:
Flexible dress codes and cooler workspaces
Understanding, trained managers
Open, supportive menopause policies

This week, I’ll be diving deeper into the neuroscience of hot flushes and how we can respond with real empathy and practical support.

Did the recent heatwave change how you think about menopause? Let’s talk about it in the comments.

This heatwave got you boiling, sweating and ripping off layers in the middle of the night?

Welcome to a glimpse of life as a menopausal woman having a hot flush.
One minute you’re fine, the next your internal thermostat (hypothalamus) decides you’re on fire and your body hits the emergency cool‑down button.

If this week has made you rethink what hot flushes feel like, drop your questions in the comments – I’ll be talking about menopause, the brain, and hot flushes all week.
