Coming soon - a new type of workshop for young dancers training for a career in dance.
Rather than focussing on dance technique this workshop addresses the psychological side of training.

We will be exploring both physical and psychological tools and strategies to increase confidence, deal with anxiety and create inner calm.

With parents we will discuss what type of support most helps a student navigate criticism, set backs and successes. Both parents and students will leave with tools they can apply to classes, auditions, exams and all the ups and downs of vocational training.

Beyond Technique is a workshop exploring the physical & psychological aspects of confidence & performance that aren’t usually covered in ballet/dance workshops which tend to focus on technique. Technique is very important but not the only part of the puzzle.

Parents sometimes feel shut out and ill-equipped to help their children navigate the challenges of vocational training, but they can be a huge support if they feel empowered to do this effectively.

So Beyond Technique will work with the parents and the students to exploring strategies for dealing with anxiety, confidence, exams, auditions. There will also be physical tools exploring grounding the body & mind because emotion, stress & criticism all show up in the body.

We will work with children & parents separately and also come together for discussion and support.

The workshop will be led by Candice Fotheringham- performance coach and former professional dancer - focussing on the psychological aspects

Dorcas Walters - Gyrotonic Instructor, dance coach & former BRB principal dancer - focussing on the physical & nervous system aspects

If you are over 14yrs, training to dance professionally and are interested in attending please get in touch to find out more.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and my studio in Birmingham is hosting Anne Thomasson who will be teaching the Gyrotonic Applications for Breast Cancer.
€525 course
I’m hoping to keep the studio fee low at £140
I think you will find this course so beneficial both for recovering cancer clients and many other complex clients.
As a breast cancer survivor herself Anne really knows her stuff and speaks from a personal perspective.
Message me if you are interested.

Your spine is designed to spiral so your exercise should include spirals. Not twisting in one place to get a crack but a moving, elastic spiral involving the whole spine.
Here it is combined with a wave through the spine with the guidance of the Gyrotonic handles.
Because your internal organs are connected to your spine this is a full torso exercise that massages the organs and hydrates the fascia as well as working the muscles.
