For me knowing how to co regulate with my child was vital for our attachment to form. For him to trust that i am a safe person to show his emotion to and who he can rely on to support him to regulate his emotions.

It's important because;
Co-regulation refers to the interactive process where a caregiver helps regulate a child's emotions, behavior, and physiological state. It's crucial for a parent to engage in co-regulation as it fosters emotional connection, teaches self-regulation skills, and supports the child's overall well-being.

children with additional needs may face challenges with co-regulation due to sensory sensitivities, communication difficulties, or differences in processing social cues. Tailoring co-regulation strategies to accommodate these unique needs is essential for effective support.

It's more important for children with attachment trauma; have care experience, adoption or have been mistreated in some way because;

Co-regulation plays a vital role in trauma recovery for adopted or foster children by providing a secure emotional foundation. Through consistent support and understanding, caregivers can help regulate the child's emotions, build trust, and establish a sense of safety.

This supportive environment enables the child to develop healthy coping mechanisms, form secure attachments, and navigate the challenges associated with past traumas. Co-regulation promotes emotional resilience and fosters a positive developmental trajectory for children in care.

Adoptees have been through many disrupted attachments. Usually, having lived with carers, foster parents, and adopted parents. Meaning their attachment to others is tricky.

As an adopted mum, I see my boy struggle daily with his attachments to me, his dad, brother, friends, and wider caregivers. ❤️

I work with adults with attachment trauma often due to witnessing domestic violence, neglect, abuse, and due to the care system.

I thoroughly enjoy working with attachment trauma because I witness people work towards loving themselves as a whole, their parts of self; inner child, adult, etc. join up like never before, and they can open their hearts to deeper connections.

This is such a privilege to be part of.

Simply because when we attach to things, people, systems we invest parts of ourselves. We perceive we find safety, but with this comes great risk of losing it.🤕 Therefore, losing parts of ourselves.

What if we were able to see attachments as a fluid connection rather than a concrete one.🌊 Seeing the attachment to parts of ourselves and others as possibilities rather than constraints? 🤔
