There can sometimes be a much bigger story behind the words, ‘I’m fine’. Perhaps it’s difficult to put your feelings into words, you don’t want to worry the people around you, or you simply don’t know where to begin.

Personalised support starts with understanding the person.

That means looking beyond a label or presenting concern and considering the wider picture.

It is one of the reasons thorough assessment and individualised therapeutic approaches matter.

Save this if you're considering what good psychological support should look like.

You might know that something doesn't feel right.

You might know that things have become harder.

You might be worried about your child but not know why.

Or you may simply want to understand yourself better.

You don't necessarily need to arrive with all the answers.

A first conversation can be a starting point for understanding what is happening and what kind of specialist support may be appropriate.

Asking for help doesn't have to begin with certainty.

Sometimes it begins with a question.

Pause. Breathe. Notice.

When we feel stressed or overwhelmed, our nervous system can move into fight, flight or freeze. Our breathing may become faster, our heart rate increases and our thoughts can race.

Box breathing can help create a moment of calm:
🟪 Breathe in for 4
🟪 Hold for 4
🟪 Breathe out for 4
🟪 Hold for 4

Our feelings are also important signals. Rather than pushing difficult emotions away, learning to notice and understand them can help us respond more effectively.

Psychological therapy can support us to develop the awareness, coping strategies and psychological resources we need to navigate difficult moments with greater flexibility and self-compassion. 💜

Pause. Breathe. Notice. What are you feeling, and what might you need?

If you're finding things difficult to navigate on your own, contact Purple House Clinic to find out how psychological therapy could support you.

Therapy isn't about being handed a set of instructions and being told what you should do next.

It is a collaborative process where the psychologist or psychotherapist and the person they are supporting work together to explore thoughts, feelings and experiences.

Through that process, they can develop a shared understanding - a working formulation that helps make sense of what is happening.

That understanding can then inform the work.

The journey is different for every person.

Share this with someone who may be considering therapy but isn't sure what to expect.

Mental health and neurodiversity can be complex.

Different areas of specialist expertise can sometimes provide different perspectives on an individual's experiences and needs.

A multidisciplinary approach allows clinicians to work together, bringing their particular areas of expertise to develop a more complete understanding of the individual.

It's not about involving more professionals simply for the sake of it.

It's about bringing together the right expertise when it is needed.

Save this post if you'd like to understand more about multidisciplinary support.

What happens next?

The aim isn't simply to produce a report.

It's to develop a meaningful understanding that can inform what support may be appropriate.

A psychological assessment is about more than gathering information.

A thorough approach considers the individual as a whole - their experiences, strengths, circumstances, characteristics and the different factors that may be contributing to what they are experiencing.

That depth matters because the same presentation can have different explanations, and different people may need different forms of support.

The purpose of assessment should be to develop a meaningful understanding of the individual and use that understanding to inform what happens next.

Save this if you're considering an assessment and want to understand what a thorough process involves.

For parents, one of the hardest parts can be knowing when something needs further support.

You may not have a clear explanation.

You may have tried to understand what is happening yourself.

You may simply have a feeling that your child isn't quite themselves.

Psychological assessment can provide an opportunity to look more closely at the individual, their experiences, their environment and the different factors that may be contributing to what they are experiencing.

The starting point doesn't have to be a diagnosis.

Sometimes it is simply a desire to understand.

Know a parent who might find this helpful? Share it with them.

Knowing whether it's the "right time" to seek psychological support isn't always straightforward.

You may know that something isn't quite right without being able to explain exactly what is happening.

That's okay.

The role of psychological assessment and support isn't to expect you to arrive with all the answers. It's to create space to understand the individual, their experiences and what may be contributing to what they are experiencing.

Save this checklist if you're wondering whether psychological support might be worth exploring.

"Change is hard at first, messy in the middle, and gorgeous at the end." - Robin Sharma ✨

Introducing Intensive EMDR Therapy, one of our newest services at the Purple House Clinic.

Traditional EMDR is typically done in weekly sessions over several months. Intensive EMDR condenses that timeline into longer, focused blocks of time (ranging from one-day to multi-day sessions).

Why consider an EMDR Intensive?
• Accelerated Progress: Move through trauma, anxiety, or deep-rooted blocks in days rather than months.
• Fewer Interruptions: Skip the weekly "warm-up" and "cool-down" periods of standard sessions, allowing for deeper, uninterrupted work.
• Fits Your Schedule: Perfect for busy professionals, parents, or anyone looking for fast, concentrated therapy without the weekly commitment.

If you’re ready to fast-track your healing journey and clear what’s keeping you stuck, we’re here to help.
