I’m very proud to be a Piece of Mind therapist.

It’s a role I care deeply about, because helping people has become one of the most meaningful parts of my life.

But over the last few weeks, I’ve also realised something.

A lot of what people see from me online is Ian the therapist.

And that’s only one part of who I am.
So over the coming weeks, I want to share a little more about Ian Young the person.

The businessman.
The husband and dad.
The friend.
The therapist.
The person who has taken risks, made mistakes, enjoyed success, learned some difficult lessons and is still learning every day.

I believe strongly in hard work, integrity, accountability and self-belief.

I believe relationships matter more than possessions.

I believe that genuinely caring about somebody doesn’t always mean agreeing with them. Sometimes it means being prepared to have the difficult conversation, challenge them, supporting them and standing beside them while they grow.

And I believe life is ultimately about progress.

None of us have everything figured out.
I certainly don’t.

But I do believe that if the things I’ve experienced, learned from or got wrong can help somebody else move forward in their own life, then they’re worth sharing.

I’m also someone who is quite spiritual and intuitive, and that forms part of how I see people, relationships and life itself. You don’t have to share those beliefs to understand me — but they are part of who I am.

Material success has given me some lovely things, but they’re still just things.
The things I genuinely value are family, friendships, loyalty, purpose, animals, connection and knowing that somehow I’ve made a positive difference to somebody else.

So this isn’t me moving away from Piece of Mind.

Quite the opposite.

I’m incredibly proud of the work we do.
I just think it’s time I also allowed people to get to know the person behind the therapist.

Because one of the things I believe most strongly is this:

If we all try to leave a little more than we take, we make the world richer for everybody around us.

So… this is the beginning of something slightly different.

Lets get to know Ian Young the person.

Doors closed for the week and holiday mode activated.

It's been one of those weeks that has tested me both personally and professionally. Like everyone else, therapists have difficult days too. We carry our own challenges while doing our very best to be fully present for the people who trust us with theirs.

Today, though, I finished my final therapy session before a much-needed holiday, and I walked out with a smile. Watching someone leave feeling lighter, calmer and more hopeful is a reminder of why I do what I do.

This week hasn't been easy, but it has reinforced something I believe deeply: even after the toughest days, there is always hope, progress and a reason to keep moving forward.

Now it's time to recharge, refocus and come back ready to help more people change their lives and start a new push on towards future plans.

Thank you to every client who has trusted me with their journey. It really is a privilege.

See you all soon. 🌞

Some people find their way to this course with a clear plan.

Most don't.

They just have a feeling.

That they're meant to be doing something more.
Something that matters.
Something that uses a different part of them.

Maybe you're already a good listener.
The person people come to.
The one who notices things others miss.

Or maybe you've been through something yourself and come out the other side thinking.
I want to help people the way I was helped.

Our next clinical hypnotherapy diploma starts on the 26th and 27th of September.

You can join the full nine month diploma.
Or start with the four month foundation course if you want to find your feet first.

If something in you has been quietly saying there's more than this.
That feeling is usually worth listening to.

Drop me a message and let's have a chat about whether this is the right fit for you.

Andy and Phil share the internal experience of what it can feel like to be a man trying to hold everything together, while Iona speaks powerfully about the impact of loosing her brother to su***de and what its like for people left behind.

Together, they talk about.

*Where men learn to hide their emotions

*Why vulnerability can feel so unsafe

*The pressure to be the provider, the protector, and strong one

*What happens when life becomes to heavy to carry alone

A little update from me (and Barney) about Piece of Mind.

When I started Piece of Mind, it wasn't because I had a grand business plan.

It was because I'd been through my own struggles and I knew what it felt like to need support and not know where to turn.

I wanted to create the kind of support I could have done with myself.

That hasn't changed.

It's still the reason I do what I do.

Everything I've built since then has grown from that one simple idea. Nothing is changing there. I still spend a large part of my week working directly with clients because helping people through their struggles is, and always will be, at the heart of why Piece of Mind exists.

As the years have passed, something interesting happened.

I realised that helping one person at a time wasn't the only way to make a difference.

That's what led me into training.

Many of you know I've spent years teaching and mentoring therapists through our accredited hypnotherapy training courses. Seeing students grow in confidence and go on to help others has been one of the most rewarding parts of my work.

I’ve been working in workplace mental health and wellbeing training since 2021 and that side of the business is really starting to grow. The reality is that many people spend a huge part of their lives at work. If we can help organisations create healthier, more supportive environments, then we’re helping people long before they reach crisis point.

Over the last year, I’ve also been working hard behind the scenes to develop Piece of Mind Training and we're currently in the final stages of becoming an SQA Approved Training Centre.

It's been a huge amount of work, but one that we're incredibly proud of.

What I've realised through all of this is that the mission has become bigger than me.

To continue growing, helping more people and creating the impact we want to create, the training side of Piece of Mind needed to grow too.

So over the last few months we've quietly welcomed some fantastic people into the Piece of Mind family.

Many of you will already know Iona Russell from the TicketyBoo podcast, she has been helping drive things forward behind the scenes and is playing an important role in helping us grow our reach and connect with more people.

Ann Stewart has joined us, bringing a wealth of experience in education, learning development and training, alongside a genuine passion for helping people and supporting their growth.

Ian Young has been an integral part of the Piece of Mind journey for many years. With extensive experience working with trauma, anxiety and addiction, he brings a huge amount of knowledge, wisdom and lived experience to the team. Many of you will know Ian through the Tickety Boo Podcast, Piece of Mind Birmingham and the work we've done together over the years.

David Gowans has also recently joined the team. His background in both the police service and as a paramedic, combined with his passion for mental health and wellbeing, brings a unique perspective and a huge amount of real-world experience.

This isn't a corporate announcement.

It's simply me sharing something I'm genuinely excited about.

We're building something special.

Not because we want to be bigger.

But because we want to help more people.

The values remain exactly the same as they've always been.

Just people trying to make a difference.

Thank you to everyone who has supported Piece of Mind over the years.

This next chapter is only possible because of you.

Andy

Today, the Piece of Mind team is delivering a bespoke Mental Health Awareness programme for managers at one of the world's most highly regulated organisations, based at Gatwick.

We're particularly excited about this session because it goes far beyond awareness training. The course has been specifically tailored to the organisation's environment and is supported by a suite of practical follow-up resources, all designed and built using the POM Method.

Our focus is always on creating real, sustainable change—equipping managers with the confidence, skills and tools to support mental wellbeing long after the training day ends. We also supply unique follow up resources designed and built using The Piece of Mind method that no other training company does.

Looking forward to a great day with the team and participants.

We've got apps to track our sleep

Apps tracking our steps

Apps tracking our stress, heart rate, mood, our breathing and probably our ability to remember where we left the car keys.

But heres the question

Have we stopped trusting ourselves?

In this episode of The Tickety Boo we dive into the modern wellness industry and the growing obsession with measuring everything.

We talk about:-

-Why so many of us need a watch or an app to tell us how we are feeling.
-The pressure of optimise every part of life.
-Whether wellness is helping us or making us more anxious.
-And why some times the healthiest thing you can do is stop tracking and listen.

At one point Andy points out that his nan managed to live a pretty good life without a sleep score, recovery score, readiness score, hydration reminder, mindfulness notification, or a smart watch telling her that she'd had a stressful Tuesday.

This episode is funny thought-provoking and asks an important question.
