Want to improve your mobility? But not sure where to begin 🤔

There is so much information out there available to us with social media which is great, but sometimes it can make things a little confusing 😮‍💨

We don’t need to overcomplicate things and sometimes keeping it simple is all that’s necessary 🙌🏻

⭐️ Childs pose to cobra
⭐️ Worlds greatest stretch and rotation
⭐️ Hip to Hamstring lunge
⭐️ Alternating Pigeon
⭐️ Sumo Hip Hinge

This routine can help to improve mobility throughout the body! But even if you pick one movement that you and your body likes and aim to do a few minutes of it each day in an area you’d like to improve, that’s also brilliant! 💪🏻

3 For Knee Pain 🦵🏻

Some big factors with knee pain are encouraging confidence back into a patient, through improving mobility, stability, control and progressive loading, not only through the knee but also in the hips, ankles and feet 🦶

These exercises look to do that;

⭐️ Spanish Squat Isometric holds
⭐️ TKE
⭐️ Heel Elevated Squat

The beauty is there are so many options to find your entry level to starting to achieve these things 🙏🏻

I mean why does it feel so illegal 🤣🤣

Hip rotation is often the movement that’s been forgotten.

If your hips don’t rotate well, something else usually has to pick up the slack.

Knees.
Lower back.
Feet.

That’s why I don’t just look at where someone feels pain. I look at how they’re moving.

Sometimes improving hip rotation is a big missing piece that can change everything.

Always with such confidence 🤣. The plan is the plan trust it 💪🏻

TKE aka terminal knee extensions 🙌🏻

These can be a great way to start encouraging strength around the joint, open up some space and create more movement 💪🏻

These can also be a great option post surgery when looking to increase control and extension through the joint 🔥

So we’ve all seen the videos to strengthen and improve mobility of your hip flexors?..

But.. one thing that is sometimes lacking is working the hips in extension 😒

Why do we need to work our hips this way? When we walk or run we need to use extension to help push off and propel us forwards! 💪🏻

It doesn’t stop there, when we get up from sitting, climb stairs, jump, kicking movements we require this 💡

Sometimes if we can’t achieve good extension we can get discomfort above or below in the lower back or the knee as we overcompensate 👎🏻

Our main muscle groups that produce this movement are our glutes, hamstrings and adductors 💥

Sometimes tight calves may not need a stretch, they may need to strengthen and gain more control 🫡

The soleus muscle is one that has been very underrated, it’s gaining a bit more focus recently but could still do with more 😕

It is a key muscle of the calf muscle group helping to maintain lower leg function, stability and athletic performance 📈

It is crucial for;

✅ Ankle stability
✅ Walking and running
✅ Balance
✅ Sports performance
✅ Functional activities such as squatting, climbing stairs
✅ Foot function
✅ Knee function and stability

Training it doesn’t have to be hard, these examples are really beneficial, but even sitting down and doing a bent knee calf raise is a good start and can be progressed🔥

Foot and Ankle Strength 🦶

This is so much harder than it looks 😅 but can be great to get some big toe stabilisation and even get the glutes firing 🔥

The foundations of our body should be strengthened on a regular basis 💪🏻

When we stand, walk, run, climb the stairs, drive, cycle and so much more we require our feet and the surrounding structures 💡

This is where if you’ve had an ankle sprain, plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, tight calves, ankle mobility issues we can run into problems 🤕

Sometimes a lot of these issues can come from a load tolerance issue that may stem from a weakness in the areas, as well as movement patterns, repetitive postures through the day, footwear etc

Strengthening and increasing stability can be a big help with this, especially if you feel like you keep stretching, foam rolling, putting a ball under your foot and nothing changes 🚀
