๐Ÿก Care closer to home is the future โ€“ and that's good news for everyone.
A report from the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) highlights the growing benefits of providing more healthcare and support in people's own homes. Research shows that home-based care can improve patient outcomes, reduce hospital stays and help relieve pressure on the NHS.
As the NHS continues its move towards neighbourhood health services, homecare providers will play an increasingly important role in helping people stay independent, comfortable and safe in familiar surroundings. https://www.abpi.org.uk/media/news/2025/july/modernising-uk-homecare-will-boost-neighbourhood-health-services-and-save-money-says-abpi/
At SPL, we see every day how personalised care at home can make a real difference to quality of life; not just for the people we support, but for their families too.
๐Ÿ’š We're proud to be part of a sector that helps people live well at home for longer.

What does staying independent at home mean to you or your loved one? We'd love to hear your thoughts below. ๐Ÿ’ฌ

The UKโ€™s homecare service potentially saves the NHS ยฃ1.67 billion a year, and has the potential to save significantly more through shifting care from hospitals and into patientsโ€™ homes.

New research found consumers increasingly comfortable using artificial intelligence (AI) when contacting care homes for straightforward enquiries - although many remain reluctant to rely on it for sensitive conversations.

The survey of 2,000 UK consumers, commissioned by Moneypenny, found that 40% of respondents would be happy to use AI to obtain general information such as opening hours, while 33% would use it to book or rearrange a visit.

However, confidence drops significantly when enquiries become more personal.

Just 18% of respondents said they would be happy to use AI to ask about the health or wellbeing of a loved one living in a care home, while only 16% would use the technology to settle a bill.

Among Baby Boomers, 44% said they were not comfortable using AI for any care home communications, compared with 37% of Generation X respondents.

In contrast, only 24% of Millennials and 23% of Generation Z said they were unwilling to use AI.

Men were more willing than women to use AI to ask about the wellbeing of a loved one, with 25% of male respondents saying they would do so, compared with 13% of women.

How do you feel about it? Let us know in the comments.

Q: Why should I choose home care?
A: By choosing care at home you're in control of your lifestyle.

Being in familiar surroundings has proven health benefits and may provide continued contact with friends and family.

Home care may also be a more affordable option than moving into a care home too - ask us for info

Not usual for us to share a Daily Mail front page - but this one matters;

'Imagine being told you have a disease that will rob you of your memory, your independence and your ability to recognise the people you love โ€“ and then being sent home with a leaflet.

'That would be unthinkable for cancer.

'Yet for dementia, it happens all the time.

'A leaflet is not care or treatment.

'It doesn't help a frightened husband, wife or daughter when the person they love starts to disappear in front of them.

'The NHS is meant to be there for everyone who needs it but people with dementia are being cast aside and left to fend for themselves.

'People with dementia are not asking for special treatment. They are asking to be taken as seriously โ€“ and with the same urgency and compassion โ€“ that we rightly expect for cancer and heart disease.

'We need the same national mission, the same targets, the same urgency and the same refusal to accept late diagnosis and poor care as inevitable.

'If ministers can find the will to transform cancer care, they can find the will to transform dementia care.'

Michelle Dyson speaking to Daily Mail as part of our joint Defeating Dementia campaign.
