The hot weather this week has been challenging for everyone, and attending a funeral in high temperatures can be especially difficult when you’re already carrying the weight of grief.

Whether you’re attending a service, gathering at the graveside, or spending time with family and friends afterwards, please remember to take care of yourself and those around you.

Here are a few gentle reminders:

💧 Stay hydrated
Bring a bottle of water with you and take regular sips throughout the day. Grief can be physically draining, and the heat can affect you more quickly than you realise.

👗 Dress comfortably
Light, breathable clothing is perfectly appropriate. Looking after your wellbeing is important, and comfort can help you focus on what truly matters.

🌳 Find some shade
If you’re attending an outdoor service or burial, don’t hesitate to move into the shade whenever you need to. A few moments out of the sun can make a big difference.

☺️ Take a moment if you need one
Funerals can be overwhelming emotionally, and the heat can add to that. If you’re feeling unwell, lightheaded, or simply need a breather, it’s okay to step away for a few minutes.

🥰 Look out for one another
Check in on elderly relatives, children, and anyone who may be finding the day particularly difficult. Small acts of kindness can mean so much.

Funerals are never easy, and during periods of extreme heat it’s important to be gentle with yourself. There is no right or wrong way to navigate a difficult day—just do what you need to stay safe and comfortable.

The Weight Is Real. Let's Talk About It. 💙⛰️

On 1st August 2026, our Birmingham Dignity Funeral Directors team will be taking on the Snowdon Challenge, climbing Mount Snowdon carrying weight to represent the emotional weight that so many people carry every day.

This challenge is about more than reaching the summit. It's about raising awareness of mental health, starting important conversations, and supporting the incredible work of Samaritans, who are there 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for anyone who needs them.

As part of our community engagement, Today Emma and Roger visited the lovely residents and Customer Relations Manager (Ellen) at Shenstone Court Care Home in Halesowen.

Ellen showed us around the beautiful facilities of the care home and we can say it was 5*! Immaculate and welcoming with the added wow factor (see photos of the cinema!)

Look out for more community engagement posts as we will be retuning to Shenstone Court in a couple of weeks 🦜
