We at Old Gates Care home run a Veteran’s breakfast club on Friday mornings 10.30 am to 11.30am
We meet up for an hour to enjoy tea, coffee, pastries, sharing memories and a good old chin wag!
We are an accredited Veteran Friendly Care Home and have a small number of Veterans staying with us who have served in the Army, Navy, Air force (as well as spouses of Veterans). We would love to extend an invitation to any local veterans who would be interested in popping in for a drink, snack and friendship.
There is no charge for our breakfast club.

We had a wonderful time during National Care Home Open Week!
We had an afternoon tea to showcase the lovely home baking which our chefs prepare; a garden party; an open Residents’ Forum and an event to celebrate our accreditation as a Veteran Friendly Care Home.
Thank you to everyone who came along during the 4-day event and helped to make it such fun.
Thank you to all the staff who assisted with the planning, organisation and practical help during the events.
Thank you to our catering team who made fabulous cakes and cookies for all to enjoy.
We would also like to thank Sarah, Quality Assurance officer from Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council who came to support us and spent her afternoon chatting to residents, relative and staff members.
Thank you too to our local MP Adnan Hussain who supported our Veteran Event and took time from his busy schedule to meet everyone.
Adi - The Pianoman Live- what a great performance of songs from the war years! Thank you, everyone really enjoyed the performance 🎶
Extra special thanks must go to our resident Luke, who worked so hard helping Peter to set up the garden areas ready for the events, Luke helped to erect a marquee, painted the outdoor furniture and did the weeding!

The Rowan residents made their own tea today!
Each month we visit a different country in our ongoing World Tour. This month is Italy, with themed arts & crafts, quizzes, learning, music and of course…. PIZZA!
They look delicious, well done 👏🏼

Next week is Care Home Open Week.
We are planning the following events:

Tuesday 16th June at 2.30pm: join us for an open Afternoon Tea with a selection of home baked cakes and biscuits

Wednesday 17th June 2pm to 4pm: the Garden Party. There will be music, a fun Karaoke, tombola, games and refreshments

Thursday 18th June at 2pm: an Open Residents’ Forum. Our monthly Residents’ Forum will be an open meeting this month, an opportunity to join in and ask questions to gain an insight into life in the care from the people who use our service. Please come along if you would like to learn more about the experience of life at Old Gates.

Friday 19th June: in addition to our weekly Veterans’ breakfast club (10.30 to 11.30am each Friday) we will be holding a Veteran Celebration event in the afternoon from 2pm. With live musical entertainment from Adi ‘The Pianoman’ Smethurst.. We were proud to achieve Veteran Friendly Care Home Staus earlier this year and this this event celebrates this achievement.
