Mental Health Awareness week 11th – 17th May

EVENT: 12th May

Due to the unpredictable British weather, this session was held indoors and focused on therapeutic, wellbeing-centred activities designed to promote mindfulness, emotional resilience, and positive mental wellbeing. Participants engaged in a range of guided “Mindfulness and Mood Boosting” activities, including therapeutic colouring, interactive wellbeing quizzes and crosswords, and discussions around mood-boosting foods and healthy lifestyle choices.

In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Week, the session encouraged individuals to explore small, meaningful actions that can support emotional wellbeing and foster hope during challenging times. The session also highlighted the importance of connection and shared experiences, reinforcing that while individual self-care is valuable, collective support and community engagement can have a powerful positive impact on mental health.

Home Safari – 14th May

On the 14th May, Home Safari visited the site again, providing a therapeutic animal interaction session for both service users and staff. Despite the unpredictable British weather and the need to utilise the gazebos throughout the session, 9 service users attended and actively engaged with the experience.

Animal-assisted activities are widely recognised for their therapeutic benefits. Sessions such as these can support individuals in a variety of ways, including encouraging social engagement, reducing feelings of anxiety, and promoting relaxation in a calm and supportive environment.

The session was well received by those who attended, with service users demonstrating enjoyment, engagement, and positive social interaction throughout.

The Home Safari team are scheduled to return in September, and we look forward to continuing the therapeutic benefits these sessions provide — hopefully with improved weather conditions next time.

• Word searches to encourage concentration and cognitive stimulation
• Mindfulness colouring to support relaxation, reduce stress, and promote present-moment awareness
• A sunflower competition to encourage creativity, motivation, and a sense of achievement
The session provided patients with an opportunity to spend time outdoors in a calm and supportive environment, encouraging positive engagement and meaningful occupation. As we observe Autism Awareness Month this April, we wanted to take a moment to highlight the significance of this important initiative and how we can contribute to fostering a more inclusive and understanding environment.

Autism Awareness Month aims to increase public understanding of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), promote acceptance, and support individuals and families affected by autism. Raising awareness helps dispel myths, reduce stigma, and encourages us all to recognize the diverse ways in which autism manifests.

Understanding and acceptance in all workplaces can make a meaningful difference. It promotes an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and supported. Simple actions like being patient, offering accommodations, or simply educating ourselves about autism can enhance our colleagues' comfort and confidence.

We encourage everyone to participate in upcoming activities and initiatives during this month, such as your local community events that could be happening. Together, we can contribute to a culture of empathy and inclusivity.

For those of you that don’t know, March is Endometriosis Awareness Month. Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 women and those assigned female at birth in the UK, yet so many are still unaware of the disease and its impact. The theme for Endometriosis Action Month 2025 is ‘Endometriosis Explained’, exploring both how endometriosis must be better understood by the general public and better explained to patients by all healthcare practitioners.

Symptoms can vary, but may include:

· Chronic pelvic pain
· Heavy or painful periods
· Pain during s*x
· Fatigue
· Fertility issues
· Painful bowel movements
· Constipation or diarrhoea
· Iron deficiency
· Pain in other areas of the body

The simple fact is that not enough people know what endometriosis is - meaning those affected by the disease often find themselves having to constantly explain themselves - to friends, family, their employer and work colleagues, and even healthcare practitioners.

For any Priory members of staff, please remember that you can join any of the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion networks for any additional support or just a chance to talk to others who may be going through the same thing.

Yesterday at Kemple View, we celebrated Eid with all our staff and service users.

Everyone was invited to the Eid meal, prepared by our hard working Catering Team. Our waiters and waitresses for the event were our OT and Working Well Teams.

Staff and service users enjoyed a selection of starters, curries, rice, naan bread, a selection of chutneys and poppadom’s, followed by spicy rice pudding.

The dining room was full and everyone commented how much they enjoyed their meals. Thanks go to our amazing Catering Team for providing us with delicious home cooked curries and accompaniments. Happy Eid-Ul-Fitr 2026.
