Hopi candling.
Seen a man recently who had two sessions of hopi candling. Costing him £50 in total. Wax wasn't removed and still struggling to hear. Desperate as it was affecting his work and was coming days before Christmas. He got given our number. With use of both methods the wax was removed successfully out of both ears. The relief and joy in his face returned. Be warned it isn't safe.

Highlighting my concern of many people going to the wrong person for ear wax removal. I saw someone who has suddenly found her hearing has dropped in the last few weeks.
She visited the GP several times during this time and even had her ear wax removed but still did not get any relief.

The individual doing her ear wax removal failed to see the unusual appearance of her ear drums. She attended for a hearing assessment and sounded very congested too. The results confirmed a great drop in hearing which required urgent ENT referral. If she was seen by someone with the right knowledge and experience it wouldn't have got to this long. I hope she is seen soon and given the right treatment to restore her hearing.

My colleagues and the consultants I work with closely we often share the same sentiments when it comes to missed opportunities. Sudden losses need immediate attention otherwise it could be too late.

Audiologist and ENT specialist up and down the country and trying to get ear wax removal regulated. Not all ear issues are caused by wax and you have to have knowledge around the subject to be able to advise people who come to your clinic. People often think it must be wax with what they feel and when we tell them there is no wax, it is often met with Shere disappointment. The patient has expected the procedure we offer would resolve all their issues and they will walk away with their hearing restored.

Not always is it wax and it can be complicated, it begs questions how the ear wax removal industry has spiralled out of control and still not regulated. The amount of people who are going to people who fail to remove their ear wax or simply hurt them in the process.

I saw a lady yesterday who told me her daughter got it done by someone and found it really painful. It hurt her a lot. So she was a little nervous and thought I'll also be hurting her. Microsuction shouldn't be painful.

Question I got asked by a family member when assessing and fitting a hearing aid. "Do I lose my voice at the end of the day?" When dealing with people with difficult hearing it is often very hard to complete an assessment due to them unable to hear the questions your asking. Those who live with people with hearing difficulty may often resort to shouting to allow themselves to be heard. This is indeed exhausting. From years of experience we have our "audiologist voice" this is not necessarily require us to shout but to make sure we speak slowly and clearly to allow patients to lip read and hear what is going on. It's a huge relief once the hearing aids get turned on, it's like all that effort is no longer required and you can finally relax.

Had a lady come in for a hearing aid assessment yesterday. From the intial conversation I could tell her hearing was quite significant. Sat literally right next to her and she still struggled to make out what I was saying. She was a witty old lady, results indicated she needed moulded hearing aids but I couldn't send her away without anything so set up some open fits for her. Soon as they were switched on she was able to relax sit back and understand what was being said around her. It's like watching the light come back in someone face. She smiled and I could see her face no longer looking stressed as it did initially. Hearing aids make a great difference!
