Congratulations to our Paediatric and Transition Type 2 Diabetes team who have won a Diabetes Nursing Award for innovation💙⭐.

They were nominated following the rollout of their new age-appropriate model of type 2 diabetes management, focused on youth worker involvement and peer support. The Innovation Award celebrates nurses whose ingenuity is helping to transform diabetes care in the UK. The multidisciplinary team was recognised for developing an age-appropriate service for children and young people with type 2 diabetes, including those transitioning into adult services.

Carrieanne Johnstone, Deputy Centre Manager at Accrington Pals and the Acorn Health Centre, has been named as Blackburn College's Business Apprentice of the Year 2026💙⭐.
She was selected for the award after successfully completing her apprenticeship with a distinction in June. Through the programme, she has developed both her professional knowledge and practical skills, whilst continuing to perform her role within the Trust.
On presenting the award, the college stated that “Throughout her apprenticeship journey, Carrieanne demonstrated exceptional resilience, commitment to self-development and a consistently positive professional attitude, resulting in significant personal growth and meaningful organisational impact.”

ELHT’s Bereavement Specialist Midwife Nikki Galloway was invited to 10 Downing Street to join NHS colleagues from across the UK for a garden reception celebrating the NHS' 78th birthday💙.
Around 100 NHS colleagues attended the event, where the now former Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Health Secretary James Murray thanked them and their teams for their hard work and dedication. Nikki said she initially thought the invitation was "a wind up" but described the experience as "really lovely".

A long-serving colleague was invited to 10 Downing Street this week as part of the NHS' 78th birthday celebrations 🎉💙.
Adam Partington, physiotherapist and operational lead for our NeuroRehabilitation OnLine (NROL) service, was among 80 NHS colleagues invited to a reception hosted by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer in recognition of the incredible work staff do every day for patients and communities.
Adam has spent almost 16 years at ELHT and describes his journey with us as incredibly rewarding. He said it was a surreal experience walking through the famous front door and into the garden at No.10.

This week we have been celebrating and we would like to say a huge THANK YOU to our incredible volunteers💙. Across our Trust, around 150 volunteers support our patients, visitors and colleagues in a wide range of roles – helping to create a welcoming and compassionate environment across our services.
From offering a friendly face to helping people find their way, their contribution makes a real difference every day. Over the past year alone, they’ve given more than 14,000 hours of their time.
